Would it be necessary to use a small base die for reloads that would be used in an autoloader. I have not reloaded for this rifle yet; or any rifle for that matter.
Any input would be appreciated. ( I already have two sets of dies, 30-06)
I would try it with the dies you already have first, I have reloaded 30-06, 308 and 223 for autoloaders for many years with regular dies and have never had any problems.
It will all depend on the chamber in the rifle. As mentioned, some semis won't require the SB dies to function, others will. The same can be true of lever guns. Try what you already own first. Don't trouble trouble 'til trouble troubles you. - dan
i will through my two cents worth in here. i have two semi's in 30 06. one is a 7400 and the other is a 740. the 740 seems to eat whatever i feed into it however teh 7400 is picky. even with a chamber checkers it is still picky. i have therefore bought small base dies for this gun. i haven't loaded anything this year yet for it buti am looking to do that this week and take it out for the girlfriend to test.
Not if you have a regular full length sizer die. One or the other is required for semi-autos though. A full length sizer die will have 'FL' stamped on it.
I have a 308 remington that a buddy reloaded 100+ rounds with regular die and it would not fire one of them so I bought a small base die set and have been rocking ever since.my 2 cents!
