small hands

30 + years ago whne I was first learning t play guitar I realized that my hands were a little bit smaller than most, and so I adapted to a very individualistic form of playing. Now to guns, just remember that smaller hands don't mean weak hands.

I have fired several handguns at friends ranges and while most were ok for me, some were not. The Beretta was a ##### and very unccomfortable for me. The Norc 1911a1 was Ok, fun but after a few hundred rounds I would not be happy.

Does anyone else have any input on guns that might be easier. Please just remember that smaller hands don't mean weak hands.

Thanks

Do yourself a favor. Go to your local gun store and fit everything they have on hand (no pun intended). A revolver grip can be easier adapted then a semi-auto. (Mag fits inside the grip right?). I fit large medical gloves (and XL, depending on manufacturer), and I find that my Para double stack too wide and had to modify my grip to accomadate for it. (I have learned to grip my Para different from my other guns).

Unfortunately, I think gun makers are in cohorts with kid's clothing makers. The may claim to be the same size, but they can be very different.

I have the same problem (BTW I play Bass so I know exactly what you mean), I take a 6 1/2 glove size.

As was suggested before the CZ75 has always been comfortable for me, just don't expect to be very accurate with double action shots. Single stack guns like the Norc 1911 are always easier to shoot because of the reduced circumference of the grip. I knew a IPSC shooter in the UK before the ban who would remove the left side grip from his 1911 because he had small hands.

Personally the guns I have found comfortable to shoot have been the GP-35 Hi-Power, even though it is a double stack, the 586/686 Smiths, the 629 with the original wood grips, Ruger Mk11/Mk111 and the Glock 17 series.

Try as many as you can at the range. Be conscious of where the pad of your index finger falls naturally on the trigger when you have a comfortable grip. You want to have the trigger resting just before the first joint and just after the pad of the finger.

Try the Springfield XD series pistols...they tend to fit smaller hands better than larger hands. Glocks fit just about everybody, of course, but I'm a fan of the XD's. ;)
For a TDA pistol, try the Beretta Vertec.

Try a Browning High Power, a GP-100 and a 1911A1 with a flat mainspring housing. Different grips may help too.
The CZ75 isn't for small hands. The trigger is too far forward.

I have kinda smallish (but not weak:p ) hands. I find my 1911 w/flat backstrap and my HiPowers are the best fit for my hands. USP Compact is not bad, but bigger than the other two.

1911s (single stack of course) is a great choice, as is an XD9/40. I don't like CZs but they do seem to fit smaller hands.

EDIT: Also, 1911s are easy to downsize with some slim grips and a short trigger (I am setting up a gun this way right now actually).

What about the 92 Vertec? Or is it inox? One of them has the slimmer grip.

Adam

It's the Vertec (as I already mentioned in my post above ;) ). It doesn't have a "slimmer grip", it has a flat backstrap as opposed to the arched backstrap of the 'standard' 92/96 series. It's the only TDA pistol that fits my hand. Like Laniru, I have small (but not weak :D ) hands as well. Apart from a M1911-A1 and a Browning HP, if you want an all metal pistol, the Vertec is a good choice.

Inox is stainless, Bruniton is back...

I don't have large hands myself and handled/fired Berettas with aftermarket grips that were too large for me, I find newer models that come with Houge grips to be a bit thinner. But yeah Beretta Vertec and Elite 1 models have smaller grips and should be a good fit for people with smaller hands.

I have small hands. Here is a list HG's which fit "me";

Glock 17
Hi-power
1911's
XD-40/9
CZ 75 (feels the best!)
Ruger p89 (pushing it)
Ruger kp97 (Single stack, feels good The new p345 is slimmer yet)
Beretta 92's (again, pushing it)

Here are the ones that have worked for me:
  • Glock 17/34
  • S&W K or L frame with Hogue Monogrips
  • 1911 with straight mainspring housing
  • H&K USP
I found the CZ75 good in single action mode but a bit too long in double action.

Anyone have a single stack Sig? How are they?

I believe that the military police originally switched to it as a replacement for their S&W revolvers used for people with small hands (meaning women)

I as well have small hands, the best for me so far has been the CZ75 and Browning HP. I currently own a Norinco M-77B but plan to own both a CAZ and a HP again someday.
Most revolvers seem ok so far.
