small hands

1911 set up for it, as Gorkey mentioned. Short trigger, thin stocks, maybe a flat MS housing (some folks find they point funny with the flat backstrap).
BHP, thin stocks, works good, ditto the CZ75. Maybe a single stack SIG, but the trigger reach can be too long for some folks. K frame S&W's with service or Roper stocks (I have small hands and I shoot a lot of N frames this way). Anything widebodied is pretty much asstastic, so look elsewhere. SAA revolvers are all good too. - dan

Personally I think that the best gun (centrefire) for small hands is the single stack 1911. As its smaller than most and has more parts available to make it adjustable.

BHP are quite fat and not really any shallower front to back. Ditto with just about any double stack.

The simple truth? It really doesn't matter if you have reasonably strong hands and use good technigue. Go with whatever feels best to you. You may have to shoot a bunch to figure out what that is.

If your hands hurt after shooting a 1911 then you're probably doing something wrong technique wise. There shouldn't be any impact, or pounding. Let the joints (elbow mostly) flex to absorb the recoil energy rather than trying to hold the gun motionless.

Usually, the common "problem" encountered by people with small to medium sized hands (i.e., shorter fingers and thumbs, like my hand in the photos) is the reach to the trigger when a TDA (Traditional Double Action) trigger is in DA (Double Action) mode (pictured is a SIG P220 9mm single stack):-

This "problem" usually disappears when the trigger is in SA (Single Action) mode:-

One shouldn't dismiss a pistol that is a bit of a stretch for the trigger finger in DA mode, unless all the other controls are out of reach as well, or the grip just simply feels too "fat" for you. I have let too many fine pistols go to new owners because of this "DA" problem. It's not really an issue...it's just one shot if you shoot competition, and when you're just shooting for fun on the range, you'll most likely shoot a TDA pistol in SA mode anyhow. ;) Same for DA revolvers, except some really are just too much of a handful, like the Python, for e.g.
For sheer comfort and confidence, nothing has fit my hand like an XD..not even a Glock.
For reference, my open hand (with fingers outstretched) measures 7" from the crease between my wrist and hand, to the tip of my trigger finger.
