I have a Remington 597 in 22lr. It has 100 rounds through it to date. During disassembly I noticed a tiny hole in the underside of the bolt and it doesn't look normal to me.

Should it be there or is it a defect? If not a defect, what is the purpose?

Thanks for your help.

It looks like your extractor bashed a hole through it by the way the edges are deformed:confused::confused:
A cast bolt seems like a bad idea to begin with.
I'd show that to Remington and see what they say

The hole was there before I fired it. I just never thought too much about it at the time.

I had the camera handy while cleaning it today so I took some pictures.

I would not worry about it. My 597 LS SS rifle has it (~8000 rounds through it) and my 597 YellowJacket has it (50 rounds fired). It in no way affects function.

That sure looks "weird", if it wasn't for you guys posting that it is "normal", I'd think there was a problem!

Cheers
Jay
