Hey guys
Just curious with why there is a variance with moa ratings for red dot/holographic sights.

Wouldn't it be best for a 1moa site rather than a 6moa site?

It depends what your doing with it. The 6 moa dot is easier to see and faster to acquire, especially in bright conditions. If your just knocking plates down at 25m, 6 moa would probably be best. If your shooting for groups at 100m, then the 1moa would be more useful.

And 6 is huge, I not sure I've ever seen anything that coarse

It costs more to make small, precise dots. Some technologies (especially those that don't use batteries) don't lend themselves to fine reticles.

In my experience brightness and crispness are most important, specially if you're going to run a magnifier.

Meprolight M21 and some of the trijicon sights have 6 Moa dots. The Trijicon RMR have 13 MOA dots (for pistol). I'm sure there are others that coarse.

For CQB I've settled on the EoTech... I find the 65MOA donut of death is super fast and adequate for running and gunning. The 1 MOA dot is accurate for precise longer range shots, especially when paired with a magnifier. I found this setup much better than Aimpoint or other sights I tried.

It all comes down to cash. A 1 MOA Dot is many times more expensive than a 4 moa dot. You get what you pay for, and the larger the caliber, the better the device needs to be to handle recoil.
