I just finished priming 2000 10mm cases and found that 2 have small primer pockets. They are headstamped "FC NT 10MM AUTO. I know the "FC" is Federal Cartridge but what"s the "NT" stand for?

This is the first I've ever seen of small primers in a 10mm although I know both primer sizes have been used in 45 auto.

What's the scoop?:)

NT seems to be the headstamp applied to newer Federal lead free ammo. I'm guessing it means Non-Toxic. They only seem to have small primers for the NT line.

What a pain in the ass that is! Why would they do that?

I think it's easier for them just to have one type of leadless primers, and since it's easier to fit a smaller primer on a large cartridge than a large primer on a smaller cartridge, well, we bigbore shooters got screwed.

I think that Wincherter started the ball with their Win NT 45ACP. This stuff sucks big time. No matter how carefully I sort my brass, there's always one that makes its way to the priming station and it usually ends with a crush primer, sometimes a detonation, and always with alot of swearing.

I can tell when one gets into the stream before it detonates, but I agree they are a pain! On the other hand, some are switching to them entirely to save cost (minor) and insure that no one else steals their brass!
