Looking for feedback on using the smaller accubonds at faster speeds on deer size game at closer ranges. The 30s have beefed up shanks but the .284 and smaller don't seem to have this. My 270 bee shoots the 140 abs at 3360 fps. Anyone run abs in a 257 bee or 7 at 3300+?

i can't remember if they where 140's or 160's , but past 200 meters ballistic tips in my stw seemed to work fairly well ..... the farther out the better .
up close it was like they would go "splat" like a bug on the windshield .

the accubonds are supposed to be more heavily jacketed .

myself , i'd go buy a box and fire them up close into some 5 gallon pails of water .

Being a bonded bullet, they should perform at any velocity above 1800fps or so. The ballistic tips burnt_servo mentions are not bonded, so they tend to have explosive results if pushed too fast, but that shouldn't be a major concern with a premium bonded bullet.

That said, 3300+FPS IS a lot... Why not use a heavier bullet? It'll reduce your muzzle velocity without major changes to energy...

I have shot several deer and blackies with my 7 RUM and 160 gn ABs at 3500 fps, had great performance and all one bang kills. The closest though was about 300 mtrs and got a clean pass through and not too large a trail of destruction. It certainly did not come unglued.

I hit a doe in the spine with a 7mm 150 grain accubond long range at around 3220 fps at about 20 yards and it damn near tore her in half. Bullet exited but I did find a couple of lead fragments.

I didn't mean to spine her but she was running full out and I didn't lead her enough. Hit her in the spine right where the rib cage ends.

I run 110gr AB's in my 257Wby a bit over 3400 fps....just haven't shot anything with them yet lol.
Deer opens this weekend though and I hope to change that.

I shoot 110 Accubonds in my 257 Wby at 3520fps. Shot 2 mature does, 1 broadside and the other quartering to me, went in in front of the front leg and exited behind the off side leg. Both wound Channels didn't show any signs of the bullet coming apart but both deer sure dropped like hit by lightning.

I've used the 160 accubonds in my STWs, crowding 3300 but a
shy. Nothing did much other than go Straight down. I did manage
Recover a couple, one in a black bear and one in whitetail taken at very short range and at steep angles with a lot of spine involved. Recovered bullets were down to
Not much over half on those ones. There was so much hair in the
much hair in the air that it looked like it was snowing. :)

The 140s were used past powder burn range at closer to 3500. Never recovered any, everything died.

Used the 140s in the 270 Weatherby at around 3400. Works fine, never found a bullet.

Try the 90 grain GMX at 3750.... Its just this side of a MOAB when it hits them.

man I rekon the ABs are tip top, I used 140gr in .277 for a while.... worked a treat.
love them in 308...

using woodleighs over the ABs in the 708 but simply due to pricing here.

I shot an Antelope buck a few weeks back with a 110 Accubond in my 257 at roughly 100 yards. Full pass thru. Dropped right there. No signs of overexpansion. I will use that bullet again
