Smallest light weight NR .22lr for a pack rifle?

I ordered some aluminum tube 12mmOD 8mm ID and it arrived today.... I bent the end of the tube 20deg where it enters the receiver and drilled and tapped it to match the TDX's stock bolt. The bend puts the end of the rod in a comfortable spot on my chest and it folds up parallel to the barrel now.

I also ordered some compression fittings that are made for strain relief of electrical cords that fit nicely on the 12mm alum tube and transition to 1/2" NPT threads, I just need to source a 1/2" NTP cap to finish it off... The tube looks like it will be able to hold 12 rounds of CCI Quiets.

With the solid steel bar and folding butt pad replaced with tubular aluminum and a minimalist butt pad/cap it's now weighing 45.5 Oz as shown with the burris red dot and rubber cover.... almost 3 ounces less then the OG model with the Daver II Grip!

I also ordered a section of carbon fibre tube but it hasn't arrived yet, I bent an extra short section of the 12mm/8mm tube before I cut it to length and the plan is to use it with an 8mm rod as a spline to connect the carbon fibre tube when it arrives...... probably not much weight difference but the carbon fibre will be warmer to the touch and not so shiny.... :)

Great job! What an awesome solution to the weight issue, plus it can hold rounds — two thumbs up!

Thanks Barrett, I must say your modifications to get yours to fit in a quiver inspired me to see if I could get it to fold tighter..... :)

I carved out a pocket in the bottom rail and shortened it a hair to allow the action release and trigger guard to close tighter but bending the tube 20 deg further really made a difference.

It's mind blowing how much the stock steel rod weighs that's for sure! The gun does feel real solid and substantial as it comes out of the tube so to speak, but it's not too hard to modify to shed weight and size that's for sure.

I found some more parts in my shop last night that I may use to finish off the Cap/Butt pad, and I modified one of Daver II's larger sized grips to fit and with those pieces added and the red dot, it still weighs a bit less then the OG unit in the picture with no optic.

The other thing adding a bit of weight to the TDX is it comes with a steel thread protector on the muzzle instead of the old plastic one.

Nice SW KitGun there buddy :)

This entire discussion would be very different IF our overlords weren't so incompetent to observe the golden rule of real estate....

Dont need anything other than a keystroke or two on the books rewferencing the above statement FFS

Firearms regs the exact same across this massive and wonderfully rural country with huge expanses of wilderness is fully ridiculous .....
The details of barrel length and how a firearm is carried/deployed etc have no place in the wilderness ...krypes....furthermore ones need to defend oneself from predators regardless of leg count in the wilderness should be inalienable FFS its the wilderness !

There are only two issues of paramount importance that should be focused on with firearms possession/use Accountability of actions of the person & location location location
A vetted PAL holder in the rural and certainly wilderness shouldnt be under the same restrictions as an urban or core city location end stop

Of course the time for pushback on these matters is long past....hard to stop the toilet from emptying once its flushing/flushed...and Canadians are well past the Ptrap and on our way to the septic tank at this point

The other ironic twist to things is....

There is no safer way to carry a loaded firearm than a pistol worn in a properly designed holster end stop

The military and police know this ....and it is common dogma in any instance where one carries a loaded firearm regardless if for defensive/offensive purposes or hunting/predator control etc.
A pistol worn in a holster proprietary to the gun in a secure manner protects the trigger/retains the gun/controls the muzzle and most importsantly leaves the operators hands free to otherwise engage in walking/climbing/multitasking without having to deal with the fireram until such time as is necessary.
Carrying a loaded rifle wether in hand/port arms/slung/shouldered etc requires it be "babysat" by the operator obstructing or even eliminating the operators hands from use....and most importantly always leaves the muzzle in some coverage that ranges from less than ideal to dangerous (yes the sky is still less than ideal).

Soooo....THE most safe method of carrying a loaded fiream is unavailable and illegal to the civilian PAL holder......in the hunting/plinking enviroment where one is traversing difficult terrain/climbing/descending and has a constant requirement to have both hands in use most of the time
Well done assclown overlords...well done

Then theres the asinine logic that a PAL holder is perfectly fine with a centrefire rifle that with a few degrees of elevation is lethal out to 15miles or more....but god forbid they have a 22lr pistol at their disposal in the wilderness

FAIL

Ive had a good amount of java this am is obvious...but man does this entire issue burn my ass

Might as well throw sound suppression in there as well Terez, another common sense safety technology denied to the not so free citizens of Canada.

One of the best posts ever on this forum IMHO. Thanks for posting this.

The Carbon fiber tube arrived last week and I played around with it some more last night.... using a short bent section of 12mmOD/8mmID allum tube drilled and tapped to accept the receiver bolt, I then inserted a short length of 8mm allum rod (1 1/2") to act as a spline and cut the carbon fiber tube to length. I used a couple of wraps of electrical tape to secure it temporarily as I was experimenting but the plan is to drill through the tube and allum rod and pin it in place and also use some permanent loctite inside the connection.

The Carbon fiber tube is a bit lighter then the first allum tube I used and comparing the weight of the new stock to the original steel stock the TDX comes with it's a half pound of weight reduction according to my luggage scale.

The TDX with the carbon fiber stock and the burris red dot weighs a couple ounces less then the original little badger with no optic and it folds into a more compact size and can break down quickly into two sections.

I decided to order another 50cm length of carbon fiber tube ($20) that I'm going to adapt to use with the stock folding plastic butt pad that comes attached to the solid steel rod.

It should be an easy modification with a few holes drilled and possibly some re-enforcement inside the tube with epoxy or 8 mm allum rod where the screw attaches through at the receiver end.

It won't fold as tight with the original stock angle but it's an easier way to drop close a half pound for most people and the cost and skills needed are minimal.
