Smallest light weight NR .22lr for a pack rifle?

Did you purposely install the optic rail reversed?
I also considered the barrel mount but didn't like the way the optic "hung" when taken down so installed it on the receiver. So far POA and POI hasn't been compromised....

Yep, rail is reversible, if mounted the other way it protrudes a little far back when taken down and stowed in the stock. Bit more compact this way. I wish Dlask made a shorter, lower rail for red dots. Magpul one seems a bit more esthetically pleasing. Be cool if someone made a really low profile mount with a RMR or similar footprint.

..w0w..it's almost 200 comments! Just K.I.S.S. = Henry AR7.

Maybe K.I.S.A.S.S. ( Keep it semi auto simple stupid), but for K.I.S.S the little badger is hard to beat.

AR7 and it's clone was mentioned twice in the first 5 posts so it's getting some love.... :)

I've heard some people have had issues with theirs regarding hammer drop issues when closing the action but I've never experienced that, and all of them I have tried have shot well with a nice crisp and fairly light trigger pull.

I shot the TDX yesterday with quiets and it grouped half a minute of grouse head at short range.... :) I ordered some 12 mm OD 8mm ID carbon fibre tubing to replace the solid steel stock rod and some matching aluminum tube as well so I can bend it in parallel to the barrel when folded.

Just to state the obvious and annoy us all......

S&W does it right....have been for many yrs

J frame kit gun pretty compact :)

Annoying, isn't it?
I have had an AR-7 for the better part of 50 years, and have found it to be a useful little rifle. Made a canvas holster with a shoulder strap for it.

Annoying enough?[/QUOTE

The Holly Grail of revolvers. I heard they existed but never saw one. Is this a photo shop? A search of ancient Guns & Ammo magazines reveals ads for these guns but no clear evidence they were ever made. If I were you I would hide this photo for fear you might ne declared a heretic and burned on a cross for suggesting the revolver exists. The planet maybe round but declaring this revolver was made is quite a reach.

FYI Ruger makes a similar revolver, a six shooter with a 4.2" barrel. Mine has a horrible DA trigger but a satisfactory trigger in SA. I bought the gun, having given up finding on what you clearly have. Never turn it in the Trudeau and his band of gun grabbers. There are lines in the sand that need never be crossed.

Take Care

I consider the Ruger SP 101 .22lr's to be akin to warm up swinging with a few bats then stepping up to the plate with one.... :)

They are a great finger strengthening machine when dryfiring double action with some drywall anchors in the chambers to cushion the blow.

I have the matching .357 with some lighter springs and it's a completely different experience.

I have two GP100's, the .357Mag which I have competed with and the Match Champion in 10MM both of which are excellent revolvers with even better triggers. I have not tried investigating how one might reduce the DA pull on the SP-01. I suppose a lighter hammer spring might be the answer but then you risk issues with igniting the rim fire cartridges. Trigger and hammer shims might help a bit but really.....

Go figure....pretty simple.
Even if the receiver/barrel wasn't sored in the stock, it would still fit nicely into a backpack while hiking.

Could be RTF in mere secs with 8 round mag in place.

3.5 lbs.

I would often carry mine in its holster with the action assembled to the stock, barrel in butt, butt cap in my pocket. Very fast and easy to install the barrel and #### the action.

Huskydude, did you weigh that? Mine is only 2.5# un-loaded, but in the 'Swirly' colour. 2nd pic below, ca 1961-2. The original 'Brown' was advertised at 2 3/4#. On Left side of the page, below "ACCURACY, ..."

Posted the pic, then remembered the thread was also about weight.
Then edited my post... pulled the "3.5 lb." from Cabela's. "The Henry U.S. Survival AR7 rifle is ultra-lightweight, weighing in at a scant 3-1/2 lb."

TDX arrived today, it's noticeably heavier in the hand. Using a cheap luggage scale which is not that accurate it weighs 53.2 ounces and the original with the Daver II minimal grip comes in at 48.3 ounces.

The stock on the TDX is a bit longer and the cheek weld out of the box with the peep sight at the lowest setting is good.

I removed the one allen bolt that holds the stock in place and it slipped right out, and that's when I realized that it's not a tube but is in fact a solid rod of steel!

The stock alone weighs 10.9 ounces. It looks like it would not be that difficult to find a suitable tube to replace the solid steel rod with and put a stopper on the end that would serve as a minimalist butt pad and also allow rounds to be stored in the tube.

I will have to look around through my random material stash and see if I can find a suitable tube.... with a bit of a bend down it could be made to fold smaller similar to Barrett's setup.

A carbon fiber tube would be slick, or perhaps a polycarbonate rod or tube heat molded to be more compact.

I ordered some aluminum tube 12mmOD 8mm ID and it arrived today.... I bent the end of the tube 20deg where it enters the receiver and drilled and tapped it to match the TDX's stock bolt. The bend puts the end of the rod in a comfortable spot on my chest and it folds up parallel to the barrel now.

I also ordered some compression fittings that are made for strain relief of electrical cords that fit nicely on the 12mm alum tube and transition to 1/2" NPT threads, I just need to source a 1/2" NTP cap to finish it off... The tube looks like it will be able to hold 12 rounds of CCI Quiets.

With the solid steel bar and folding butt pad replaced with tubular aluminum and a minimalist butt pad/cap it's now weighing 45.5 Oz as shown with the burris red dot and rubber cover.... almost 3 ounces less then the OG model with the Daver II Grip!

I also ordered a section of carbon fibre tube but it hasn't arrived yet, I bent an extra short section of the 12mm/8mm tube before I cut it to length and the plan is to use it with an 8mm rod as a spline to connect the carbon fibre tube when it arrives...... probably not much weight difference but the carbon fibre will be warmer to the touch and not so shiny.... :)

I remember when I first seen one in person and not in the stereotypical side profile picture, I actually chuckled out loud as it was handed to me, went back on the shelf pretty quick.

Even she has a smaller butt than the ar7,
