Smallest light weight NR .22lr for a pack rifle?

Have you owned or used one? I've had almost one of every manufacturer over the years, & Yes, the earlier models esp. the 'Charter Arms', is where most of the issues came from. It's quite the innovative little rifle, designed by Eugene Stoner, they did have some Jamming. They were a bit fussy on ammo, {High Velocity Only} but mostly it was with the Mags lining up properly/alignment of the Feed ramps. The thing is, even on the earlier makes, a simple match, paper, or twig, or shim, slide behind the magazine, would angel it just 'so' & not jam. When I figured this out, I never had any more Jams on the earlier ones. They have been in use since the 50's. By the time Henry got the manufacturer rights, any of those issues have been sorted. & the magazines have been re-designed.

Anywayz..My Vote is for the Henry AR-7 if you want a semi. For a bolt action, the Savage, MK II with the 13" barrel is a great rifle.

Prophet river sells the little single shot . 22 peep sighted youth crickett, 2 1/2 pounds, sits nicely in a pack, a feather to carry and the dinnertime targets of opportunity don't get left behind anymore.

Keystone lists them at 3lb. Have you put yours on a scale?

Im not a huge fan of having to #### the rifle after loading it, that's one of the reasons I went with the Rascal. The Rascal is also available in lefty, mine is right handed but my daughter is left eye dominant like me so I'll probably be adding a lefty to the locker soon.

Depends on your purpose. For me, I'd rather carry a lighter gun and just hope to make that first shot count. In my experience the grouse will either flush and be gone after the first shot, or just stand there like a statue giving you plenty of time to reload. Probably get better accuracy with a single shot bolt than a semi too?

One day I want to switch from the rascal, but that will only be to either go lighter (pack rifle most likely? they're retardedly light) or go with a papoose because that seems to be the lightest of the takedown 22s and Marlins have a very good reputation for accuracy. My one big complaint with the Rascal is the front sight is pretty large. I could take a file to it, but I don't really want to...

Did your brother get his Pack-rifle from Prophet River? What's the accuracy diffirence between it and the badger? My Little Badger also shoots quiets well and has a vortex red dot sighted in for 25 yards.

Yes, the Pack-Rifle was from Prophet River.
Both guns are accurate to within minute of grouse. I think the difference is more down to the sight on the Pack-Rifle being super hard to minutely adjust (it is just a screw in a slot) and hard to keep steady because it is so light. These aren't guns we take to the range and shoot groups with. I have no definitive comparison.

They don't have the Pack Rifle on their site anymore, I just checked. I also looked for it a few months ago and they didn't have 'em then either. I don't know if they don't carry them anymore, or if they just don't have any due to the buying trends stateside though.

Prophet is very good at bringing in hard to get items from the US so the pack-rifle should be no different if there is stock available from the manufacturer.
Jut, thanks for the info on the pack-rifle sights, the little badger's sights are pretty basic and just a bit of white on the front post makes a huge difference but it's also easy to mount a small red dot. With the pack rifle a scope mount is an accessory.

I've had 3 ar7 ones (the older model with the solid all metal barrel) and all ran fine with mini mags but also not really accurate.

I prefer one accurate shot over a semi that shoots all over the place so my vote goes to a savage rascal. Great trigger and very accurate.

I needed a 22lr rifle to keep in the vehicule while in remote area. I tested my Papoose and my Henry survival for reliability.

I really like the Marlin Papoose. Great little light weight 22 rifle that is surprisingly accurate as well. I haven't had any issues at all with mine.

Gray Birch that is a lot of rifle to pop a grouse with.... what does that cost with a folder?
An extra pound doesn't seem like much, until it is..... And you still need an optic.
It looks like the fore end could be removed to drop some weight.... is it a 10/22 platform?

Was shooting with my son the other day my AR7, very early model, 1960? Anyway it cycled CCI Semi Auto Quiet without a bobble.

I'd think that a 10/22 takedown, in a minimalist stock, or a Magpul backpacker, with a Dlask 9 inch CF barrel would work well with a dot sight on it.

I’ve been down this rabbit hole also, carrying 2 guns adds weight I carried a 10/22. I settled on a combination gun I managed to buy 2 different rifles. a baikal 12 gauge over 30-06 and a cz Brno 12 gauge over 308… the Brno weighs 7 lbs
