I am looking at a Mares Leg in .357 or .44 for a nice legal carry while hiking with the kids or fishing on the river. I want something as compact as possible in a hard hitting caliber I am not afraid to point at Yogi.

What are your thoughts/opinions on this and other guns I may have overlooked

Thank you much

Light, compact, hard hitting, and doubles as a flame thrower! cant ask for much more out of a back packing rifle.
you can even use the folding bayonet too roast hotdogs and marshmallows

My grizzly 12.5" has an overall length of 33" with the fixed stock. I don't like pistol grips on a shotgun but I may put a collapsible stock kit on which should shorten it by 3 or 4 inches overall for just the same purposes. The grizzly 8.5" would be smaller but you don't want to limit yourself to 2 shells.

Kel-Tec is out (but on my list when available, that thing is a beast!) I am REALLY leaning toward the Rossi Ranch Hand in .44 mag, as with the leg holster it would be a dream to pack on your person all the time. I am tired of packing guns that weigh too much and that I end up leaning on a tree.
