Every year dogging we want to carry a 410 while deer hunting , but we can never find find a system that works. We've carried the 410 backpacker and its just to bulky and gets hung up everything. I once saw a small 22 with just a wire frame, is there anything like that in the 410 world???

Any one else is this boat

FYI

I'd be careful about going too short a barrel on a .410 that you plan on hunting with. I've seen hares and grouse get away wounded more than once when shooters thought the .410 had more range than it does, and a shorter barrel won't help.

As for your OP, maybe you could custom make a wireframe stock for your backpacker? Maybe even a folder version...

I've got an M6 scout. It's a great backpack gun, but to be honest they don't shoot all that well.

We do a tonne of bush pushing at our camp. 3 of 6 of our guys hunt with a Ruger .44 carbine. I am one of em, they are GREAT for hauling through the prickly ash. Short, light, semi auto and accurate. IMO its the best dogging gun there is for thick bush.

Edit: after re-reading I realized I misunderstood your question. You are looking for a SECOND gun for small game while pushing deer. Got it.

M6 Scout but for very close range only. 15-20 yards

If you’re dogging in the thick stuff I do not think you will find a solution, if you do let us know. For grouse and rabbits on the stand I have used the backpacker 410, 22 calibre pellet handgun (it is legal in Ontario), and even the crossbow has taken a grouse. We cannot carry another rifle or handgun for bow season for deer in Ontario. You can only carry your bow and shooting at small game is an expensive way to lose a crossbow bolt. If you’re in Ontario maybe try a 22 calibre pellet handgun, I have seen guys that had holsters for them but they said they still get hung up in the thick stuff because they are not in your hands. But for the stand nothing is quieter or cheaper than a 22 calibre pellet handgun.

Get one of these.

Small light and able to be fired with one hand. Rossi.

Shells store in the stock.

I carry it on a hook on my belt or backpack and if I see a grouse I can shift the primary gun to my off hand and draw and fire with the good one.

Ya ive thought of a 22 pellet hand gun, but im not sure on the killing power unless you get a good head shoot. I have an 25cal air force condor and its surprising what some birds can take.
