Smallest restricted revolver in .357/38?

Hello,

I don't know much (yet) about handguns, but I'm looking for a revolver that can shoot both calibers 357 mag and 38 spl.

I do not like those long barrel revolvers, and would like to know which models are available on the Canadian market with the shortest restricted barrel possible (around 106mm). Cheaper is better :)

Ruger GP100 4.2" barrel is your easiest/cheapest option; other alternatives are to buy any revolver with longer barrel and have a "smith" shorten it for you to >106mm.

What he said, even with a 5" barrel it fits nicely in a front pocket of a pair of jeans.but its only a 5 shot and the ruger is 6 shot.

The Ruger looks good to,but built like a ruger,read blocky compaired to a S&W M60.

GP100 is around $700 + tx right? Damn, it's a bit more expensive that I thought.

At this price, I might buy a Glock instead.
 
700 is not a lot when it comes to brand new (non-chinese) guns, be they revolvers or semi-autos. What price were you expecting? Yes, you can find a Glock for about the same price. It all depends on what you like and need it for.
 
Glock is arond 600 or more
Ruger is around 600 or more (actually, the blued is under 600, the stainless is over 600)

plus shipping, taxes, etc.
 
A revolver and a semi-auto are not even close to being in the same category.
Do not confuse the two.
You state you want a .38/.357 then switch to a semi auto? Are you sure you know what it is you want? Read up on the differences before making your decision.

I know the differences. I like both and I thought (my bad) that a revolver would be cheaper than a Glock so it would be more appropriate for a first handgun. I'll get both eventually.

depends on why you want it, i suppose. i had thought about the single-actions for a while until it occurred to me that i'll be using it in IDPA. if it was only a range toy, then the single-action would be kinda neat to have. a Ruger Bisley Vaquero, to be exact.

the times i've shot a double-action revolver, i've usually used it in single-action mode by manually cocking the hammer anyways, so DA / SA was essentially a moot point. though loading an SA-only would be a bit slower cuz of the loading gate as opposed to a swing-out cylinder. i've only shot one DA revolver in DA mode, and it was a REALLY nice S&W model 64 that was tweaked for PPC competition. alas, 38 special only if i recall correctly.
 
really, buy the ruger gp 100 4.2 if you don't like it you can sell it and won't lose a dime, other option is S&W 686 with a 5" barrel for twice the price (nearly)

Movingtarget.ca had REALLY good pricing on S&W revolvers recently... and they are a sponsor.
