Ok folks, what can we learn fom this?

Buckshots are useless as cougar stoping rounds, we should all stick to slugs :dancingbanana:

Looks like a vampire cat.......hehehe
Great job on the review, I wonder if the Speedfeed Birdshead grip might be better?

Not too far off - I just read on another forum where a guy who was a police officer had to shoot a pit-bull charging him. Now I've never touched a wild cat, but I had a teacher who did (toured with Aerosmith and they had a leopard he petted) and he said it isn't soft, it's like touching a rock. so if this happens to a dog, what happens to a determined cat?

Ok server is down so I'll describe - police officer /w shotgun & 00buck is called because a mad pitbull is trying to eat through a door to get at people in a house. It charges him, he waits 'till 10' and fires downwards at it. Hits it (maybe twice, I don't remember) but it doesn't stop, then hits it and breaks it's leg and the dog runs off and hides under the stairs. Then with 3 legs it came out and attacked again, and took a real nasty shot to the body, but still didn't die and was alive when animal control came later.

Hmm... thats a scary pitbull!

Yeah I said in another thread somewhere that I would only be using slugs in this for wilderness protection because of the short range. I want maximum stopping power inside this kind of range.

I thought the 00 buck would penetrate better than THAT tho...

:bsFlag:
Having worked animal control, and spent over a decade working with pitbulls, I say this sounds like one of those typical donut shop stories cops tell each other, and later to the Media.

I would say that pit bull attack story is a bunch of malarky, because RCMP officers have used in the past, thier 870 12 gauge shotguns on close range grizzly attacks in BC garbage dumps.

At 10 yards or less(!!!) 00 premium plated buckshot would work, if gun goes bang.

What? I've shot ferral dog with 2 3/4" #2 shot at ranges of 10M. They go down for the count. I've also shot ferral dog with 000 and 00 buck at those ranges, and it's a waste of buck shot IMHO.

the title really got me goin man haha good range report i might have to do one on my 12.5 se how she does

Thankyou, thankyou. Just wanted to add that rail covers feel nice.

There are lots out there, but rubber ones go with the grip.

Hmm... I wonder what I will see the next time I head off into the wilderness...

Hmm no wildlife this time, plastic or otherwise, but I did get a significant amount of lead downrange.

I fired 100 rds of #8 at things like ammo boxes and hockey balls to get the hang of aiming this puppy a bit better. If you remember, last week I was bruised. I can type this now with no pain. I have learned how to properly hold the SMD 12.

And like LckyorWhat said, holding at the hip isnt quite the right angle. Almost chin height is where this one likes to be. There has to be a slight bend in the wrist.

I fired 10 rds of 00 buck and 15 slugs aswell. I am unscathed (And all shots were on target)

Now that I have the knack of holding and aiming this thing I can crank off all 4 rounds pretty fast and hit every time (15m targets that is) I am ready for the real wildlife now methinks.

Next challenge???

Remembering that I can only load 3 + 1 in this puppy.

This is what you here on the line right now.

"Bang... Bang... Bang... Bang... Click...Damnit!!!"

I think I must have done that a half dozen times.

I love this shotgun!

Will have to get someone to throw some clays for me next !!!

no, they shortened the tube on this. It only holds 3 in the mag. One in the chamber totals just 4.

But, thats probably 3 more than I will ever need right? ;)
