Dose anyone know where to get ammo for a 1889 swiss smidth rubin 7.7x53.3.Will it shoot a 7.5x 55 round with say 25 grains of powder with a 308 diamater bullett.I have a 1896 and would like to shoot it.Any help or info would be greatly appreciated

If you reload, just use 7.5x55 brass, as is without trimming back to 53.5mm and about 180gr .308 bullets. In my case I use 35gr of H4895 with 178gr Amax bullets.
Simple, no fuss.

thank you for the reply diopter,a friend of mine from work gave me a 1889 smidth rubin today it is in full military dress and every # i can find on it matches. The wood is in real good condt the rifle as some surface rust as it sat in his shed for who knows how long said it was given to him by is father in law and that he never fired it .Have it striped apart now took some pics before i touched it to show before and after condtion that i will post here as soon as i can, tomorrow after work ,hopefully. This one will finish up my swiss rifle collection, very excited about this rifle.

Put a thin layer of grease over all the metal, and leave it for a week, at least. Might surprise you

Here are a few pics of the rifle ,im pretty sure its a 1889

I have it completly dismanteled now ,every part matches includeing the magizine looks like it was never taken apart befour.Pulled my bore snake trough it and the bore is clean and shiney but some of the parts will have to be re blued such as barrel bands ,trigger guard ,and so on

Yes it is definitely a model 1889,now all that remains is to get al the rust cleaned of and getting it to look like the one Badgerdog has posted

now to find some dies ,work up a load and try her out.The bore is clean and shiney with like new rifleing which is supriseing given the age of the rifle .Very anxious to see how it shootes

Look's even better! I'm pretty sure those have 3 groove rifling and were ment for the original paper patched boolit's, but any modern bullet will work. Just keep the pressure down.
