Well here is my latest. Can't wait to get her out. Hopefully i can find one of the older style, smaller k frame grips but for now, I'm sure these target grips will be fine.
Been wanting one of these for a while and now that i have it, i don't know what took me so long. Very nice trigger, nice finish (though not an older 17-2), for an 8 3/8th, the balance is really not too bad. If i can't shoot this reasonably well, I can't shoot anything... Suspect this won't be the last classic smith that catches my interest.

Yeah, that one is sort of like cheating because the muzzle is so much closer to the target than anyone else's gun.... :d

Its the small "magna" grips you're after if you want the smaller grips. But be careful what you wish for. They are REALLY SMALL around the neck area and if you have anything bigger than medium size hands you will likely find that they are really too small.

Mind you I find that the strong outward taper and swell of the butt end of the target grips makes holding the gun tough even with my L to XL glove size hands. So I'd suggest you look for some Arrend or Hogue wood grips instead. Google for images of them and see what I mean. I've got a set of Arrend, or very close copy grips on my N frame and it's simply a superb fit to my hands from the neck to the butt end.

I second BCRider's comments on the magna grips. I have a pre model 14 K-38 Target Masterpiece that came with original diamond magna grips. They are very small around the neck. I ended up replacing them with K frame targets. having said that, the diamond magna's are carefully put away as I'm told on the S&W owners site that they are in high demand and worth a pretty penny.;)

Nice, I picked one up last year for a fair price due to some storage damage to the exterior finish..... shoots great!

I used to have a 6 " model, and I really miss it. Great gun, maybe I'll have one again another day.
I had to sell it back in '89, so if anybody has K 350 364, treat her well.

If you have medium to big hands then consider Magnas with a Tyler T grip adaptor.

That's my 17-3 upper right. Very comfortable to shoot with my medium sized hands.

Old school chic!

I've looked at the Tyler T's but no online ordering option....snail mail orders with a cheque only....what? Are they caught in a time warp that has held them back in 1978?

Forget it, sailor723; it's Revolver Town.

Yes Tyler, Herrett's, lots of revolver accessory guys and smiths are ‘print out order form, fill in by hand, and FAX it in with money order.’ Got a question? Call my beeper, I'll call you back from the pay phone at the store.

(A time warp to the guns of '78 is not necessarily a bad thing…)

Thanks for the advice on the grips. I'm gravitating towards the smaller magna grips because I like the classic look and don't find the target K frame grips the most comfortable for my hands, but maybe I'll consider some options. Anyway, as pointed out they are hard to find, particularly in good shape.

In spite of that how do you like them? I find the grips small on my S&W 1917 and my Colt 3-5-7

I like the way they fill in the narrow space between the grip and the trigger guard.

Overall I get a better grip for both DA and SA with the adaptors.

In world where one's government trusts its lw abiding citizens, the Magna grips are much less sticky to clothing than rubber grips so they will print less in a CCW situation.

Plus the rubber grips are so FUGLY. Here's what my 12-2 looked like when I bought it.

I'm with you on rubber grips doing nothing for the look of a revolver. If I'm looking at a revolver wearing rubber grips for sale I always factor the cost of grip replacement into any offer.

Maybe I'll give the Tyler T a try. I'm sure can remember how to mail a letter if I really work at it. ;)

Gdawg!
Another classy purchase! The K-22 brings back fond memories! I shot the 6" ones as my first time into handguns almost 30 years ago. 25yds, one hand, indoor range. Never failed, accurate and well made. Wish I actually bought one. What about the Pachmeyr grips?
Geologist, I had the 2.5" 19 once. Wish I kept it. Smith made great revolvers once. The 2.5" and 4" K frames, the 1.8" J frames and the 4" N frames were gorgeous. Nowadays the weird R8s and comps and rails just ruin the looks of the classics, only IMHO.

I put VZ grips on all of my square butt Smiths. I find them perfect. And I've tried a LOT of grips.

I'd like Ahrends better if they were checkered. Retro Combat isn;t bad, though
