Hi,

I am trying to locate or verify the model number of a .22 S&W revolver that I bought at Lever Arms in Vancouver with a bll just shy of 4 inches in 1992. This allowed me receive 12.6 status. I think Mr. Lever knew what he was going to happen when he suggested I buy this beautiful revolver. The revolver was heavy bbl and frame, and it had an amazing wooden target grip that I have never seen on any other .22. I should never have sold that revolver years later. I'm assuming it was a target configuration and model. Again, the grips were amazing.

Shot in the dark. Did it look like this? Model 17-6

I bought my first revolver from Mr. Lever. He carried everything back then

I suspect what you have is a Model 18 variant. I've shown this one before here, a M18-3 that I bought at Woodwards in early 1976. Built on S&W K-frame. It held and balanced just like my M19 but easier on my ammo budget at the time. Still own it and it's still in the condition shown on this photo.

Hi GDAWG, if and when the laws change with PP in office would you be willing to sell me that revolver? Thanks

Alfonso

I wish that was mine but it is just an example I pulled off the 'gunsinternational' site. If you retained your 12.6 and they reverse the restrictions, you should be able to find one with a WTB. If you didn't 6" versions are available. I suspect a 6" version will likely be easier to acquire either way.

The difference between the SW M17 and the SW M18 is the length of the barrel. M17 has a 6" barrel, the M18 has a 4" barrel. Aside from that they are the same. Both pre-model 18 and 17 are the better ones all way around, smoother with the trigger and easier to extract the empties. The pre-model 5 screws are my favorites with both 17 and 18.

Yes I did retain my 12.6 thanks to Mr. Lever.

I wish I had a photo of one of them, but in the Mexican Custom Shop we got a couple of the underlug barrels that fit on those babies through Brownells or Numrich and got them down to Mexico. Then we drilled them out to accept a .357 dia. barrel sleeve, and did the barrel undercut to accept the K-frame cylinder crane and installed them on Model 19's that we marked as .38 S&W Special Model 15's. They looked sharp! K-frame Model 19's with the underlug. I think we had to install a taller front post on the ramp sight, but it's pinned so we had no problem with that.

Seeing that photo reminded me of that. I never had one of those myself, I had my own 6-inch K-38 underlug barrel installed on my own Model 14-3. But I thought it was a neat idea and as far as I know, those conversions are still holding up.

I believe the factory made some full underlug M14s around the same time as that M17 was out.

They did. On my Model 14, I just installed one of the Model 14 Underlug barrels that Brownells blew out in 1999 or so. But we had to make up the 4-inch underlugs for the Model 19's using the K-22 4-inch underlug barrels, drill them out and install barrel liners, etc., etc. . But it worked. I wish I had bought one, but I just didn't at the time.
