Smith and Wesson 686-1 recall, what do I do?

Hey guys so I bought a S&W 686 357 and after researching the hell out of it I realized this gun has a recall on it, if you have a "m" stamped ABOVE you model number then it has been fixed.

S&W will do the fix for free.

Does anyone know how I get a hold of S&W Canada or how I go about getting the gun to them? I know in the USA they send you a box and you mail it but I don't know if I can do that in Canada.

If you can get it fixed do it, but don't fret about it.

This issue was an incompatibility of the S&W revolver and Winchester Silvertip ammo. The hole in the bushing is just slightly large and with high pressure rounds the primer would crater and flow into this gap rendering the cylinder very hard to open. Both companies blamed each other for "defects" and in the end both companies changed the product. S&W had to give a bit more because it was "their" gun that did not function. Very few people had problems, but at that time in history both companies wanted the lucrative law enforcement contracts. LE was still heavily into revolvers at that time.

Yeah, upgrade the Smith when convenient but don't lose sleep.
 
Back in the 80s when the 686/586 first came out, .357 magnum ammo was higher pressure, IIRC. That was the reason i think the primer flowed into the slightly larger than normal firing pin hole.

IMO, try shooting a box of current factory .357 magnum ammo, with 158 grain heads to minimize flamecutting of topstrap. If you do not have any evidence of primer flow into the firing pin hole, then you are good to go. If it aint broke, why fix it?
 
Thanks guys, that's good info, sounds like its not really that big of a deal but I'll give them a call and see what they say. If its free why not.

I shot it for the first time today, I love it!! Defiantly the best gun in my collection
