A Wolff spring kit will lighten the double action trigger pull by a lot. Highly recommended if it doesn't come with such.
A 4.2" barrel will be better for action shooting where you shoot from a holster draw. For general range plinking and bullseye use the 6" will have a longer sight baseline length which SHOULD make YOU more accurate.
A 586 is the same mid size S&W but in blued steel instead of stainless. Pick which you prefer. Both are superb.
If shopping used there's a couple of slightly smaller and lighter K frame guns you should not pass on. A Model 14 chambered in .38Spl only and the model 19 in .357Mag so you can shoot either. Both are true revolver classics.
Shot mine today and it is one of the nicest shooting handguns out of the box.Picked one up and love it. Thanks for the pics and opinions.
Beautiful grips! I may have to look in to a set of those, though I do like the Talo grips on mine.....where did you procure those?
I bought them from D&J Gun Repair in the States. Judy Ahrends recommended them to me (owner's name is Terri I think?). They have an eBay store (gripseller) where they have a pretty good selection. The Cordia grips were a special order though and they took a while to be made. I did the whole transaction directly with D&J. They were great to work with, very accomodating and communicative. I will definately will be buying from them again when I get my next revolver.
Buy the 686 you won't be disappointed. I switched the grips on mine from round butt to square butt - much better feel in the hand.
