Smith and Wesson Bear Protection kit

I not sure how to post pics but I'll try. Joe Dlask built a perfect copy of the factory sight. That press in lift out front blade is awesome. Plus it allows you to use a scope if you wanted. Three dot tritium's by Mepro Light are on there way. Dlask did the chop job and they did not remove the barrel. Joe did a nice job and finished it with a mat grey finish similiar to the factory finish. I wish I would of had him finish the hammer and trigger the same just for the look cool factor, but its a work gun. Gunner of Armco has some great ideas on chopping the barrel and making it appear simmiliar to a GP100 barrel. Involves a neat kind of front sight....very interesting. I would of had gunner do the work but he does such good work he's always super bizzy and I was in a rush to use it for work. Joe Dlask dosen't really like doing the chop job......I actually had to talk him into it. He said no at first then I explained I work around lots of G bears and really needed it done. He's a really good guy that Joe. PM me with email address for those that want pics. Good luck with your Ruger.

Runt and Quinnjoblow,
Here is my SRH with the barrel chopped to 5.5". The front ramp was machined from scratch and allows me to use the factory front sight blades, the gun was bead-blasted after. The F/O works well for 300gr bullets but is too short for 400 grainers.
BTW: Whatever you do do NOT pull the barrel on a SRH, bad news if you do.

Cheers

Ike, Thanks for the pics..Sweet looking Redhawk. The barrel is chopped at a proper practical length. Staying at 5 1/2 would help with recoil. Who did the nice work? It looks almost like it came that way from Ruger.

Runt, Yes, Joe is a good guy. I have spoken to him on AR issues. I didnt know they did custom revolver work. If you can get pics up at some point id still like to see them. I dont have PM.

QJB,
Thanks, I like it a lot as well. It is a perfect length for me. I was going to go really short like Runt at first but decided to go a bit longer after shooting it a bit.
The work is a combination of Armco and Dlask, both are great folks to deal with. The final product looks great, the second pic is blurry but the ramp is serrated as well to cut glare.
I hope to get some pics of it in action soon.
Cheers

Wow Ike
I like that........very nice. I do agree on the longer barrel. I especially like how you had the whole revolver refinished. I only went with the 4.25" because I carry my RSRH is a horizontal shoulder holster and it was the length I needed to fit my rib's. Nice fiber optic sight.....my three dot Meprolight Tritium units should be in soon. Did you have Joe or Gunner do any trigger work? Great looking hand cannon :)

Suprised RL, thought since your such a blade guy, your bear defence wouldn't consist of a blade?!? :)

glad you brought that up...know how to survive a bear attack with a knife? stab your buddy in the leg and run :D

Maybe a bayonet lug would work ;) except it would be longer than the gun.

(Sorry to hijack you post with talk of the SRHs.)
Cheers
