Hello everyone,

Just a heads up, I purchased a S&W Model 66 online , and sure enough the barrel sleeve is crooked.

I can't believe they would screw that up.

Good luck finding a new Smith that has a non off centred barrel... Don't bother trying to straighten it ether, its not crooked but off centred in the frame. I tried to straighten one and ended up with the lines matching but the front sight was crooked. Also the under lug was way off centreed when I lined up the top strap. Only way to fix this is to get a new frame that has the barrel hole drilled centred.

Every Smith I've owned had this issue, but it never caused a problem, S&W is well aware and does not really care :( You could try contacting the S&W warranty centre for Canada "Murray Charliton"

Aside from the looks, it will shoot great and you won't have any issues.

Don't know where you are but if you look up S&W service centers there should be one near (or not so near) you. A lot of stuff is under warranty all you need to do is ask

Well It's a new purchase from a reputable dealer so I contacted them 1st, well see what they say.
The new Model 66-8 has a 2 piece barrel with a sleeve covering the actual barrel. Maybe its possible to align it properly.

I will shoot perfectly fine. But if you are like me, kinda anal about my guns, it'll drive you crazy! Contact Murray Charlton. They will get you fixed up. They are awesome to deal with.

Canted barrels on Smith's ? Google is your friend. Another "They don't make'm like they used to" story. But yes.. they do shoot just fine.

+1, they are one of the few warranty centers that are great to deal with.

Older S&Ws sometimes had incorrectly indexed barrels, too. I used to have a 5-screw K-38 that was off by about the same amount as in the picture, though it was a good shooter. I would not worry about it unless the front sight was obviously canted as seen through the rear sight.

It is, not by much but once I had spotted it, it was all I could see.

Too much of this stuff happening with S&W and some other manufacturers. With all the new technology, you have to wonder how this stuff makes it out of the factory.

I don't seem to have that problem on any of my S&Ws....but they are all pre Hillary Hole too, so that probably explains it. I couldn't live with that, like having your framer alternate the crowns on studs when your house is being built. Pure shiite.

Well damn .
I was just about to order a new S&W model 66 when I came across this thread. I agree the pistol will function just fine but not having everything lined up will bother me. Shows lack of QC and cost cutting measure IMO. Looks like I will have to seek one out locally and inspect prior to purchase.

I came across this on a dealer web sight:

* These revolvers have been Point of Impact tested at the factory after barrels are attached. The shroud grooves may not mate up perfectly but this is because of the factory adjustment.

I guess S&W stopped adding the top serrations on the receiver or at least on my 686. Probably so that the overtorqued barrels don't look as crooked. My barrel is slight overtorqued like the one in the pic but the front sights still line up and still pretty accurate shooter.
