Smith and Wesson FPC Worth It?

There is a always a certain degree of risk in life.

I remember after the OIC, so many naysayers told me NOT to buy the X95, as "it was next". Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. I got one anyway and I will tell you this - if I had listened heeded the advice of the negative nancys out there, I would have robbed myself of several years of enjoyable ownership and use of that gun. And many others that were in the same boat. .

IMO a risk free life is one not worth living.

The wife and I ended up getting his & her's X95 and could not be happier with them. I've long been an AR guy but the X95 has so much going for it, even if AR15's were rendered non-restricted, I'd be keeping my X95.

I heartily concur. The X95 is just made so well and the balance and ergonomics are fantastic. They'll probably bury my X95 with me - I have never once thought of selling it.

I really like the FPC presentation and even packaging. To have 3 magazines included is great. I remember for my Tikka T3x TACT A1, I read all this about US owners getting 3 mags with theirs (2 with the rifle and a third redeemed from manufacturer with included coupon) - but us Canadians got short changed and we only get one (and they are $200 each). I heard this came with 3, and it did. Would have been nice if it was 2 x pinned 17 rounders and a pinned 23 rounder, but happy to take 3 x 10 rounders. The bag is cool, non descript and lots of pockets and it came in the original box.

I will be looking to hang a flashlight and tape switch to mine shortly so will see how much that affects the weight distribution. I have a Romeo 5 on there right now and wanted to add a magnifier, but I'd have to really move that Romeo 5 forward quite a bit...and given that I can shoot fine with it now, I may forego the magnifier.

The one change I may consider is swapping out to a to one of the included different sized grip backs (or whatever they are called) just to test comfort.

I like the little stow/storage areas in the buttstock. I don't mind the reverse release switch that much. The gun is really comfortable to shoot. I haven't bothered to take it apart for cleaning yet.

I have been trying to think of anything that the Sub2000 has on this and the only thing I can think of is that the Sub2000 supports Glock mags, but that's about it. This thing is such an improvement in all other ways. That said, I think I recall reading Gen3 of the Sub2000 has been released so I imagine some of the gaps will have closed by then. But absolutely no regrets about the FPC.

thegazelle doesn't this FPN just use regular M&P 10 rd pistol mags.

If I wanted a backpacker 9MM this would be my choice. I know some folks who have bought them thinking they might be a good choice for playing the games. The FPN is a great little PCC but not my choice for a game player. Smith now offers a regular 9MM carbine that likely will do well in Competitions this year. Unfortunately, if I brought one more PCC in the house I am afraid "She who knows Best" might use it on me and there is not a court in Canada that would find her guilty.

Bob it does use regular M&P 10 round pistol mags. I just don't have any of these aside from the three that came with my FPC, and from doing some searches at the LGS near me and some not so near me, these are hard to find. Not even iRunGuns carries them at the moment.

I chuckle at your scenario with "she who knows best". Not that I am trying to suggest anything but the FPC DOES fold, so from a concealment perspective with the bag it may arouse less questions (and again not that I am suggesting you deliberately conceal this from your significant other but just noting this folding feature does have fringe benefits...lol)

We have to stop complying with these laws. Why are we so hesitant to stand up to these dogs?
Are we not free men who believe that we have our rights to. These politicians dont care about our
rights anymore. We need to start disobeying and start organizing if this is what they keep pushing.
I never ever thought we would lay down so easily to these dishonest politicians. Its not cool that we
allow these politicians to act like they dont work for US !!! Yes, we are their bosses. And they need to
be reminded of it...peace out

I guess if we make you Prime Minister for life we would be all better off than living under a system of laws passed by community members we elect. We are not their bosses we are the folks who elect them to represent us. The Freedom we have us not free and it will exist as long as we are a country of laws, a concept you apparently don't seem to understand. Can you point us to an example where your utopia exists.

Yes mine twangs from the butt stock when shooting too, slightly annoying.

https://oleysarmoury.com/smith-wesson-m-p-9mm-10rd-magazine/

Sweet...thanks that's a great price from Oley's. Gonna order some.

I am glad someone else noticed the twang. I swear it was my ear pro - maybe batteries dying or something or I had it turned up too much (I have Howard Leights). I think it has to be from the release spring mechanism of the mag holders.

EDIT...interesting...I just put in an order for the magazines...looks like first time experiencing the effects of the passed C21 bill...it is requiring PAL info (to generate reference number) to purchase magazines as well now (I haven't bought a new magazine in years)....

Gosh you sorta make it sound like we live in a direct democracy, which we decidedly don't. When our "representatives" aren't actually chosen by the majority did "we" elect them? Especially since it's been proven that the votes of some ridings weigh more than the votes of others (here's looking at you, PEI). So consider that before you try to act as the Canadian democracy internet defense force

To keep it on topic, I absolutely love the idea of the FPC. However, given that I treat magazines as wear items the dearth of M&P mags (especially the long ones for my stubby d#$&beaters to grab) is a dealbreaker. The glock mag rules all it seems, sadly.

I've shot the M&P at IPSC for years, what exactly is the issue? I have M&P's in 9 and 40, pull trigger go bang. About three FTF in over 5k rounds in 8 years....they are a proven product; I have no doubt that the the FPC will follow suit.

What do you do with your pistols? You use extended mags for everything?

Don't talk yourself out of it!!!

This is one man's opinion, which hardly matters, but from my experience, unless you run Glock mags through a Glock pistol, I have found Glock mags in anywhere else not rock solidly reliable. I know those who swear by them and that's fine, but I have owned a number of different makes of 9mm and .40 carbines that are Glock compatible and invariably over time (or even at the outset) Glock magazines occasionally / intermittently have issues locking back the bolt and sometimes even feeding.

Some PMAGs Glock mags work better in some carbines than OEM Glock mags. But in something that runs the same type/brand mag as the gun (ie. running a Ruger S9 mag through a PC carbine Ruger magwell, I had 100% operational success). Similarly with the FPC so far, I have had 100% operational success running the OEM M&P mags. So from my limited experience, Glock mags are more for ease of compatibility rather than guaranteed function. I know some will virulently disagree with me and that's fine but that's been my experience. I am sure that Glock mags run 100% perfectly in Glock pistols over their PMAG/Promag/ETS/KCI or whatever other equivalent brand is out there.

My experience mirrors thegazelle. My FX9 chokes on Glock OEM mags but runs KCI and SHK Glock style mags fine. This is no fault of Glock. They are designed and work great in Glock pistols. In the case of the FX9 the arm that engages the follower most often fails to engage the LB arm. To solve this I crazy glued a small wedge of plastic on to the follower where the step is on the front of the follower. This fix makes the Glock OEM mags work as they should. The arm of the FX9 needs to be a hair deeper so the area that meets the follower on the last round will engage the follower, lifting the other end of the arm up to engage the returning bolt. (Note: I do not write technical manuals for machinery).

None of this is a smear against Glock so please spare thegazelle and me the wrath of anger I know you want to vent on us for suggesting the OEM mags can be fails outside the Glock product line.
