Good afternoon!

I've recently purchased my first pistol (about a week ago) and am just reaching out to see if anyone has had any experience, good or bad, with the Smith and Wesson M and P 9 2.0. Are there any must buy accessories out there I should be looking for right away?

Thanks guys

The only thing I did to mine was to replace the sight by Hi-Viz front and rear fiber optics sights. In hindsight, I should've only replaced the front one aince as there is no practical reason why the rear sight needs to be as visible as the front sight.

An UpLula magazine loader will also come in very handy as the magazines are especially thought to load.

Lots of ammo, and a coach.

This!

OP I have the same pistol kit as my first restricted. Went for a one hour course this weekend and my instructor helped me a ton! You will get envious of other platforms when you measure the trigger travel into the 1/2 inch category but I found with practice during the class and after you can make a go of it. Learn the weapon, smoke the alpha.

Glad your coach came thru VIC!

OP, nothing wrong with the M&P Gen 1 or 2. Once you get comfortable with it and consistent, maybe install an Apex trigger and better sights. The gun won’t fail you.

Ya SA - back again next weekend. Weird that the take up is long but the reset is very little. But muh pistol I learning Lol!

Tried one last week. (Brand new) Put 5 rounds into 1” at 10 yds.
My Shadow looked embarrassed. Lol!

As mentioned, buy ammo and get some help learning how to shoot it. It’s a great gun.

Thanks for all the tips everyone... the thought of a coach had never crossed my mind. Being an avid hunter I’ve had a fair amount of trigger time on a 12 gauge, but I do know it’s a completely different world when it comes to the pistol.

In terms of finding someone to teach me, have you guys had any success finding someone at the local range or did you need to go elsewhere?

I bought the 9mm M&P 2.0 Range Kit last spring. It has been dependable, my only complaint was the old screen door noise when racking the slide. A Wolf guide rod & spring mostly fixed that annoyance.

The MCC Micro Conversation Kit is a fun range toy addon for M&P 2.0.

I like my M&P2. If you have no luck finding a coach there are various Youtube vids that teach techniques, etc. Everyone has there own way of doing things but trigger time and grip seem to be the most mentioned topic.
These two videos helped me (and no it's not because there is a pretty lady in the first video!) ;)

Good luck

Just watched both of those, very informative! Thanks for the reply!

Here's a few more vids for you, this guy did 5 tours as an Army Ranger and knows his stuff.

Have some one at the range watch you shoot, if you are having trouble with holes all over the place.
They will see if your trigger control is O.K., and grip, etc.
Most guys are quite willing to help.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

Just received all the necessary paperwork and everything I need to spend the day at the range.

As a sidenote, is there any way to mount an optic to the pistol without using one of those frames I've seen around? That seems to be the only option people are giving me, but I have seen a few links for little mounting brackets that seem to also do the trick.

Any more input for this newcomer is greatly appreciated

I have a humble M&P 9mm 1.0. It was my first pistol. I took several courses with it, competed with it and practised my brains out with it. It has seen 10's of thousands of rounds and has been a reliable and proficient work horse. As a first gun I don't think that you could do better! Once you are deep in the game consider a 1911 for your next prize as it will start to paint a more complete joy of handgun picture. Enjoy your M&P!

Thank you sir! Put my first 100 rounds through it just the other day. Had a blast.
