Smith and Wesson M&P 15/22

I've had my 597 VTR for 2 weeks. Great gun as long as I'm using quality ammo. Mine was the last one at Epps. Paid just over $400. It's definitely Non-restricted which means tons of plinking with a great looking gun.

Argh, they have destroyed my dream for a cheap, reliable training gun by making it restricted...I guess I can put in for the ATT for ranges etc...but argh.

I am aware that someone was challenging the GSG-5 ruling classifying that firearm as prohibited due to its "variant" status...perhaps a useful precedent could be made to get the M&P-15/22 off the restricted list?

:bangHead: A .22 that looks like a AR is restricted but a Tavor, SKS, M14S, AR180B, XCR, CZ, etc is non-restricted...Tell me why I hate the CFC again

Yes, the variant thing is under review. There will be a thread regarding the legal fund to support the gentleman who already won at a court of the first instance.

I guess you can include airsoft with that logic as well. A airsoft M4 looks more like a real M4 then any of the AR type .22's that are being made as of late.

I'd be all over it if it wasn't restricted... damn :(

Don't start crying in your beer yet. There's nothing on Wolverine or any other retailer site that indicates that this is a restricted firearm.

Moreover, in R. vs Henderson the judge held that cosmetic appearance was insufficient to classify a gun as a variant (in that case, of an AK 47.)

Parliament does have the authority to classify something as restricted anyway, but the chances of that happening with this parliament are vanishingly unlikely.
