Smith and Wesson M&P 15/22

How do we KNOW that this rifle is restricted? Has someone checked that database thingamajigger? Has an in-the-know supplier informed someone? Just want to make sure this isn't heresay....because I was really looking forward to a handy little .22 like this that I don't have to spend $1000 to build up myself.

I said it earlier, my dealer has me on his list to get these as soon as they come in. I hang out at the shop alot and we call the distibutor once a week to break balls on when we are gonna see these. We have now been told on several occasions, "within a few weeks", and "it is restricted". Now I know the distributor has been wrong about the timeframe but I'm sure he is not gonna tell a dealer it is restricted if it had any chance of being non restricted. If there was a chance it was non he would say it because my dealer would be ordering alot more of em if they were non restricted.

Are these going to be restricted for sure?I just watched them testing these on guns and ammo tv,they stated it is a dedicated .22 platform only.Hearing that i would hope they dont restrict these cause i really want one!

It appears that when dealing with the RCMP, stupidity is the norm rather than the exception.

I hope i dont make myself look like an idiot asking this but what criteria do our canadian gun gods use to decide what becomes restricted and what doesnt?

That is the issue. There is no criteria set in stone which is why anything resembling an AR or AK is automatically a variant and restricted or prohib. It is completely subjective. If I had an AR is 7.62 I would hunt with it but it is restricted so I can't. I have a 22 that looks like an AK but is made by a different manufacturer, not parts interchange, and it was never made in ful auto but it is a prohib because of its looks.

It's nice to see so many new, factory, black .22's coming online - long overdue if you ask me. If it were non-restricted I would consider it, for it does seem to be getting better reviews than the Colt. However I'm waiting for the Sig 522, hopefully it does not fall into the restircted class. If it does, I'll just buy another 10/22 and dress it up as I did with my Krinker - unfortunately it's far more expensive to do this.

Hadrian, if the SIG 522 is improperly classified like the other .22lr lookalikes, it would go the way of the GSG-5. The SIG 556 is prohibited as a variant of the SG-550 or SG-551. The Swiss Arms rifles available here in Canada are PE-90's.

I would advise reading this thread.

as far as I was able to find out, they are reviewing a "California" compliant version of this rifle, (10 round mag / fixed stock), the way I see it, same as Rem 597 VTR, hence I have high hopes it will come in non-restricted. keeping fingers crossed.
