Hey All,

I’m looking for a new 9mm(foolishly sold my 226 years ago when my first kid was coming)

And my local gun store has a used smith and Wesson 9mm M+p original range kit for 575$

Impressions +opinions

I like the feel in my hand.

My other thoughts were a g48 or a sig m17

Thanks

Not crazy on that price, they were less then that new.
That said, I have a gen 1 M&P and think it's a great pistol for the price.

Not a super deal, but a solid pistol. You can find even better deals on the EE, and they're solid enough you don't need to worry about wear. Troll the EE and see if you can find one with the APEX trigger already installed... Makes a WORLD of difference.

They are an excellent pistol with lots of parts available to upgrade it a bit if you feel the need. If the one you are looking at is a Gen1 then the price is a bit high in my opinion, they are regularly available on the EE here in the $500 range, however if it is local to you and in good shape it might be worth the extra money compared to buying a used one sight unseen. Either way they are a fine pistol

Bought the M&P 9 2.0 range kit a couple years ago, haven't regretted it one bit. Ran a little over a thousand rounds through it, not a single malfunction. Bit of a different trigger on it, but still great once you're used to it. Fits the hand real well, it is still my favourite grip.

Shop around for a good deal and don't look back

Great pistol, currently the best factory grip texture by far.
But I’m referring to the 2.0 version which is head and shoulders above the original model plus a much better factory trigger.
I’d advise you to pass on the one you’re looking at and wait till Christmas sales from the major dealers which I think this year especially will be great values.

Got one in .40 and find it to be an excellent pistol. The price you state seems a bit high. I got the .40 with the Range pak (extra mags, holster, grip inserts) for around $550.00 a couple of years ago.

2.0 owner.

Love it, great grip, eats everything I feed it, trigger is good (apparently much better then gen 1).

Only real downside is it really doesn't have as much accessories/aftermarket parts as I thought it'd have even tho it's one of the top selling handguns on the market. But that's not necessarily relevant to everybody...

i have the spec series 2.0 (5" barrel) and honestly like it better than my g17 gen 4.
fired it today at a friend's place next to the glock.the only thing better is the G17 with the MCK kit.
we had a bunch of guns there.

sd40ve,taurus judge,m&p 2.0 5",G17 with roni,AK,AR,hi point .45,several shotties,really tiny ruger .380(lck?),.357 taurus 2.5",...

i'm in 'merica so freedom and stuff...

I would also recommend waiting to find a 2.0, I have owned both and the 2.0 is much better, install an apex trigger kit and you will love it!

My first pistol was the MP 1.0. I upgraded the trigger to an Apex AEK and replaced the 1:18.25 twist barrel to a 1:10. I also have a 2.0 and it comes with a 1:10 twist barrel and I replaced the trigger with an Apex duty/carry trigger kit and I find that particular kit is not really any better than the factory trigger. For $575, you can find a 2.0 for the same price...

I own a 2.0 and have had glocks and the gen 1 mnp9. The 2.0 is better than both for me. Its reliable, as accurate as i am, and i prefer the metal mags over polymer, just my opinion.

Thanks guys,

I think I will lean towards the 2.0 version.

Cabela’s has it brand new for 675 and it looks like you can get a used one with some pretty significant upgrades for around 700-750.

I’m hoping to swing by there today and get my mitts on a g48 and a sig m17 as well just to get a feel for the guns themselves

I got my Gen. 1 M&P40 range and carry kit for slightly more than that brand new most of a decade ago. I hear the Gen. 2 models have some nice improvements over the Gen.1's so you may want to go that route. I have a 9mm PCC but no actual 9mm pistol so I want to correct that with my next gun purchase, though I'm thinking a CZ SP-01 Shadow, or Tactical, or Shadow 2 is likely the way I'm gonna go.

I bought a Gen 1 M&P used. $400. Installed an Apex sear (not a kit, just the sear). Added Williams adjustable sights. Shot it and shot it and shot it. I think the only thing I replaced was the striker assembly. Upgraded to a 5" Pro, and then got a 5" Pro CORE with Leupold Delta Point Pro.
No complaints at all.

Try it before you buy it if you can. I gad one, was my first 9mm, put a flat apex trigger into it, then shot a glock and realized i like then way better, and am more accurate with glocks, even though the m&p was more ergonomic.
