Smith and Wesson M&P my opinion

Just got back from the range with my new M&P 9mm, despite the fact that I still can't shoot very well I'm highly impressed. This pistol is in my opinion better than a Glock, and yes, inspite of the fact that I'm not a fan of the Glock, I've shot quite a few, including the Arotek ported and lasered prototype some years ago. Whether it will hold up better than one is open to question, but at least initially it's a better handgun for it's intended role. Minimal recoil, nice grip, reasonable trigger and excellent sights. For what these are selling for you certainly can't go wrong.

There was a post in one of the M&P threads that has photos of the mag base plates (old and updated once). Anyone knows what thread that was?

Finally got a chance to try out several diferent handloads in my M&P .45.......this is an awesome piece of kit....ate everything from 185 gr. flying ashtrays to 200 gr. cast 230 gr. cast and several others......really enjoy shooting it . It seems to be (for me at least) an instinctive "pointer". Fits me well with the lrg.palm swell and the sights are excellent......if you have been thinking of buying one ......DO IT:D

I had this problem with both mags on my M&p 40 S&w. I'm waiting on S&w's reply.

In the meantime a couple strips of black tape on the back of the mags seems to have solved it. Cheap and easy solution and the mags still drop free.

Just an update.

I emailed S&W and they are sending me a new and improved mag catch free of charge. It's supposed to be designed to hold the mag more firmly.

If anyone else has had any problmes with mags dropping out be sure to contact them. I found them easy to deal with and pretty helpful.

Thanks bclinehand,

I had been waiting to hear about how the .45 M&P's performed...Jeff/1911.

Just got a CSSA new buletin in the mail; they have a M&P9 review by Tony Bernardo!

Does anyone remembers a post in one of the M&P threads that had photos of new and old mag base plates. Anyone has a link to that thread?

Hey Goober - thanks for an excellent review. And everyone else for their input. Just about to get one & this review made me feel very good about my choice (I know that's the wrong order to do things, but circumstances dictated quick action! :) ).

Shot the M&P .45 at a rental range and loved it- far better for my hand than a Glock I tried - so promptly bought one and have run a few hundred rounds through it -happy happy :D:D. Mine has the "trigger lock" lever and hallelujah- no magazine safety. Only issues is it it hung up on my lead 200gr SWC hand loads - they seem a little too long in OAL - but had no issue with the Frontiers. Also the little grip tool/lanyard/retainer, while it rotates easily enough, is stiff to puill out. Parhaps a bit of judicious sanding is in order.

Also just received a 9mm- main external difference with the .45 is no wavy grasping grooves at the front of the slide , no trigger lock lever, and a magazine safety -which will have to go, unless IPSC production division rules dictate that it stay. The grip tool comes out easily enough when rotated, but requires the strength of two men and a boy - or padded vice grips- to rotate. Really nice trigger- even better than on the 45. Looks like it would be a great CCW gun for those US visits.

Just bought a G17 last week and an MP9 a days ago. Will play with and do a comparison soon.

So far I don't like the Glock and love the SW but will wait until I have each all pimped out.

Good lord dude, how many guns do you have now? You're practically an armoury unto yourself!

Sadly, he has succumbed to a terminal case of Pistolitis - an incurable condition which forces the sufferer to compulsively purchase a large percentage of the handguns that the local gun peddler puts in his weakened hands. It usually results in a related condition - Gunsafeitis in which the same poor soul has to buy a new gunsafe every year or so to hold the objects of his affliction.

I think he's got more rifles than pistols, too. :D
