Smith and Wesson M&P

I have no first hand exteriance with the gun so can't really help you... but there have been a few threads on the M&P, try search function I'm sure you'll come up with some usefull info...

M&P is too short to search...

Search for 'wesson' in the Pistols forum only... you'll probably get some hits.

Search function blows. Have I mentioned that before?

I used to have one in 40S&W. Sold it recently.

In short, it handles like a Walther P99 (very comfortable grip) and works like a Glock. Only complaint, the trigger will take some time to get used to, it's unlike anything I've seen, very short pull for a DAO, but quite hard. And the damned slide release is impossible to operate, too recessed into the frame.

Quite accurate, eats most kind of ammo. Lots of fancy touches for a gun of this price (scalefish serrations, interchangeable backstraps, railed fore end). Spare mags are very scarce on the canadian market at the moment,

Shot a 9mm one, very comfortable, accurate and seems reliable in my limited amount of shooting it. The grip with changeable back straps is great, make a huge difference in use.....

I had a M&P in 40...
The recoil seemed less than a Glock G22, and the grip was WAY better.
Althought the trigger pull was short, it was pretty heavy, but not objectionable.
As noted, the slide lock blows...
The mag disconnect was just one more irritation, and the only question mark will be relibility...As it was designed as a 40, it certainly should stand up well at least in 9MM...Time will tell.
As noted, mags are unobtainium currently.
All in all, I would recommend that anyone considering a 'plastic pistol' owes it to themselves to try one.

I have a 9MM. Works like a charm, is as accurate as I am, and feels good to hold. Personally, I have no issues with the slide lock or mag disconnect.

I wasn't too happy with the trigger to begin with, but I had SmokingGunFX clean it up and it is very nice now.

I am considering the XD, Glock 17, and the M&P.
don't overlook Steyr M-A1. I have one in 9mm; very egronomic, smaller than all 3 and costs no more M&P. Oh and it has a great tigger :)

I have an M&P40.

It's a great gun for the value. I think I pail $850 for it. I've had mine for half a year. Probably put 600+ rounds though it with no malfunctions.

It fits my hand better than a Glock and, in my opinion, shoots better than it. It also has a more solid feel to it. The polymer frame has a steel chasis and I suppose it makes the gun more solid. It seems less snappy than other polymer framed pistols that I've shot. Aesthetically, it's the better looking than a lot of the tupperware out there.

It comes apart fairly easy and is a cinch to clean. Some people here will complain about the magazine disconnect but I don't really see how it makes a difference whether the gun has one or not.

The interchangable backstraps are very good and do make a difference.

It's quite an unnessecary 'safety' item that's a pain in the ass.

First, if you are into clearing the pistol after picking it up, before and after handing it to or receiving it from someone, shooting it...-you know, clearance drills that should be ingrained when you own something like this, you automatically #### the pistol. If you want to 'hammer down' or 'ease springs', you need to constantly screw with the mag.

Secondly, if you dry fire the pistol, you again need to muck with the mag. This may not be an issue if this thing re-cocks like the XD, by retracting the slide back about an inch.

I like the M & P , asthetically, functionally I think it is a great pistol and probably would buy one if it wasn't for the mag disconnect.

The ones I've seen have been 150-200 more than the M&P, but thats just around here, not online....

Steyr the pistol with that v shaped sight?

If so a nice little pistol as well. Sight a little different but would be faster after you get used to it.

It actually has a very short reset. On my 9MM, I have to pull the slide back less than 1cm to be ready to go again.

That being said, I probably will look into removing the disconnect at some point...

yes, but it's not really a V shape; the front site is a triangle, and the rear slight looks like this /_\ they're called trapezoid sights.

so does you're local store sells do they sell Steyr for $1000 or do they sell M&Ps for $600? if later I might have to get one lol

The trap sights are kinda neat once you get used to them, they pick up fast in low light. The one's I've seen price around 900+
