Hi guys,
I tried researching the EE for current offerings or looking online and i find very few information on this pistol.

A co-worker wants to sell me a 19-5 for 1200$.
I have actually handled it and inspected it, but i did not take any pictures.
Condition can be described this way ;

Blued
Very good condition
Slight bluing wear near muzzle
Very faint cylinder drag mark almost non existent
Original owner from the 80s and allegedly shot very little

I am thinking 1200$ may be a lot, but then again i have little knowledge of this model value.
Production date is early to mid 80s when reasearching 19-5

That’s the thing, he is thinking it has somewhat gained a lot in value since it’s in great shape and older.
It’s not old enough for that kind of money.
Thanks for confirming I’ll pass!

Doubt it would even sell on the EE for 800$

A ton of BTT

Face to face from co worker, I wouldn't pay more than 600$ even if it's was in pristine condition with box and papers

Agreed with all of the above. The -5 does not have the collector value that an earlier one like a -2 would have. The seller is asking 75%-100% too much.

Hello!
Beyond the details of a S&W model 19-5, there is little.
Assuming that the 19 is not a 12(6) revolver, but a 6" version, C$1200.00 is an outrageous price. Unless this 19 has some "provenance" its really a C$500.00-$800.00 revolver.

Capitalizing on the fact that S&W does not make 19's anymore does not make it rare.

FWIW, In 2016 I paid $750 for a 19-4, the last model with the counterbored cylinder. $1200 is way off base, IMHO. You could nearly pick up a 5" Model 625 for that.

His price is way out of line. Revolvers aren't as popular as semi automatic pistols and his timing is off with impending government attacks on handguns in private hands.

From the condition you describe, $600-$800 would be top dollar

Three years ago, I bought a mint one for $700 and resold it overnight for the same price a year later. I probably could have gotten $800 to $850, but $1200 is outrageous for a K frame.

Max 500.00 is what i would pay. The new Model 19 is such a state of the art revolver to buy older model that were weak to 357 mag diet.

I would say you are right on the money for a good one, the revolver guys will pay up for quality, but not 1200.oo
BTW a 2in nice one sold for 700.oo + fees and taxes if I remember right last month at auction in Ca., I was interested , but not at that price.
BTW I am talking 19-2, not any newer.

I have a tuned up 19-2 with target trigger and hammer, great gun compared to my 686 which isn't half the quality.
But I wouldn't pay $1200 for one, if I was buying one like my 19 I wouldn't go much more than $750 to $800.

$700-$800 for one in decent shape. It seems there's a lot of folks asking more for beat up revolvers with lots of rounds through them. This isn't always easy to identify to the untrained eye. Once there's decades of use and a lot of rounds revolvers can go out of time which in Canada is an issue given the limited availability of parts. Now that Murray Charlton has retired even S&W parts are hard to get. Grech Outdoors hasn't answered the phone or my last three emails about a replacing a spring I shot across my basement on a S&W. Horrible place to deal with.

Murray Charlton was a class act! I miss his services and quality of workmanship very much.

If the 19 in question has had some rounds through it I place it even cheaper... $500.
