Hi guys, just bought a brand new Smith and Wesson revolver model 19 classic. Very nice and smooth gun. Just one little blemish on the finish side , the front of the cylinder is scratched and I was wondering if you guys had similar experience . still waiting answer from sw and vendor. The face of that cylinder does not look "brand new" to me. It's been marked up by something - either miss-use, or it's been used - by someone who wasn't very careful.

Forcing cone doesnt appear to be rubbing at all, gun purchased brand new at tenda , I was refered by them to a gunsmith ... Im now in contact with Smith and Wesson directly . it appears like someone brushed it with some kind of stainless brush, nicks can be feeled with nail. It does looks like forcing cone mark indeed

That revolver's cylinder has been opened many times to get that finish loss on the recoil plate, caused by the ejector rod pin. Entirely normal, but shouldn't be there on a new gun. Can't really tell by that one pic, but looks like it has been fired more than a few times too, evidenced by the slight finish loss around the firing pin bushing.

Thanks guys for your input, I agree this gun doesn't appear to be new and was handled quite a few times. I contacted Tenda to make it right. Waiting for their answer

Here's the answer from tenda :
"Dear Gabriel,

I assure you all of our products that we sell are straight from our supplier then to our customers.

I have spoke to management in regards to this matter and what they can offer is a $25 store credit as the scratch marks are easily covered up with gun blue.

Seeing the firearms is fired is normal as the factory itself has to test the firearm before releasing it to the suppliers. No firearms company will ever release their products without a test"

Let me know what you think I should do.

That offer is a sad joke.

Tenda is OK if you visit their store, but i would avoid buying anything from them online, too many complaints.

Yes indeed I wasn't very happy with their answer. Yes in fact upon closer inspection when I close slowly it does rub the forcing cone and the forcing cone is very sharp and even had some bur on the right side. Ill wait Smith and Wesson answer then chose what to do

It’s been a few years since I bought a new S&W revolver—are machining marks on the front of the cylinder like in OP’s pictures common?

What's happening with S&W quality these days? Very inconsistent. Too many disappointing anecdotes. I was very fortunate to find a very clean, low round (250) Model 66-8 which seems like it was put together by a master gunsmith. Fit and finish is top-notch. Except lock-up on one chamber has the tiniest, almost imperceptible rotational play.

I have a 686 No Dash CS gun made in the early 80's. On the odd occasion when I take "Leadaway" cloth to the face of the cylinder i can see machine marks from the modification 'Smith did to the guns when it became apparent the specs demanded by the FBI were causing the cylinder to bind after a few rounds were shot through it. If I don't clean up the the black ring of residue on the face of the chambers you can't see the machine marks. If that is the only blemish on your gun I suggest you go shoot it. 100 rds through the gun and the marks will disappear I guarantee it.

Take Care

Bob

To update you guys , I had to take the gun to the warranty center to wolverine supply. The action seemed to bind and I didn't want the hassle on a brand new gun. Fortunately tenda agreed to take back the gun. Ill try my luck on another maybe..
