I bought this odd little 22 not really knowing nothing about them.

It looked and felt different from all the other hand guns I owned.
The barrel was on the bottom instead of the top. It has a fixed barrel. its extremely light.
I had it at the range a few days ago and dumped a mag through it. seemed accurate & worked well.

I had just bought 2 more hand guns..and something had to go.....so I put it on the EE last night.

Well the wife decided to come to the range with me tonight. She stopped shooting several years ago because of bad arthritis in her hands. She used to be very good.
she picked up the little S&W and said "this is very light, can I try it"
I loaded the mag & gave it to her. I was busy at the other table going through my range bag.
I hear pew...ting..pew ting......well at least she is hitting the targets.
She asks me to load another mag........pew ting..pew ting. I looked over at her and to my surprise she was now shooting the swingers at the 50 yard mark !!

wow...I was impressed. She asked for another mag re load........she started shooting at the swingers at 100 yards.
I chuckled to myself....ya like she is going to hit any of them LOL
Pew ..ting Pew ting. she hit them 6 out of 10 shots !

we then moved over to the 500 yard range to pick brass,
she said " how far are those piggies out there " I laughed and said thats for center fire rifles,...300 yards.
Guessing ..You would have to shoot 20 feet above the berm to hit ! that.

I heard a pew.....I looked over and seen a ground shot just short of the piggy. wow thats close !

after about 4 more shots ....pew...............................................................................................TING !

never would I have believed it if I hadnt seen it with my own 2 eyes. True story.

so now she wants to keep it. I call it "the magic gun" LOL

we both knew it was just a very lucky shot......but we kept it to our selves. LOL
or maybe there is a little Magic in it.......

You tell that lady 'Nice Shootin', Tex!'..for me. The 422 is a great little gun, I had one but sold to a friend when I got a model 41 and a Colt Woodsman Match Target. His wife shoots the 422 and she also absolutely loves it. As you say, it's light, and accurate.

But if you find her a nice Colt Woodsman she may forget about the 422.....IMG_20200525_1443358.jpg

Lone Ranger, I have told this before, But, while back a young lady came with here husband to the indoor range, he was shooting a 45 or something , and I was shooting my s-w19 4" with light loads, asked her if she had shot much as she was close to me, she had never shot a HG, so I shower her the basics. I was shooting slow fire 25yrd targets, and the first 6 rounds where all in the 8-10 ring. So some just are natural at it.

they are fantastic little pistols the 422/622

i made this video a couple years back after i had taken my back out of the safe after several years of collecting dust.
my daughters learned to shoot pistol on them and they love shooting them.

Cool video. wow, just like new. I have never been so pleasantly surprised and impressed by any other hand gun.
Glad I bought it. I have owned some very disappointing guns over the years. Nice to get a good one .
Now the wife can come shooting with me again. I really missed that.

P,S I used your video to take the gun apart and clean it. very helpfull...thank you !

That short barrel colt is a great gun and a rare beast. I never cared for the smith as much.

The Model 41 was my favorite target .22.....until I got the Colt. Even with the 1" shorter barrel, I found it noticeably more accurate. And the fit and finish are just plain superior. I still shoot the Model 41 a lot, because it's more a shooter grade and I'm not as worried about the finish on it at this point...but I still bring the Colt along every now and then. It's a beauty to shoot for sure.

I didn't realize how uncommon the 4.5" barrel Master Target was initially, and what a steal of a deal I got on it. I do know someone locally who has one, as well as the 6", and is looking to sell. But for a whole lot more than I paid for mine.

I have two. Both target models, one with the long bbl the other with the short bbl. Love them. Got the short bbl for the wife to shoot. She's left eye dominant and has to shoot weak handed. Liked the short bbl one so much, I got the long bbl one as well.

The grip on the 41 just never felt right to me, couple fellow in the club has them, one not bad, the other is terrible, lots of trouble, I have worked on it for him, he shoots limp wristed is the main problem I think, works for me.
I like the grips on the colts and the slant grip Hi Standards way more, thou I shoot Milt grip Hi Standard and like them as the same as 1911.
The short barrel (4 1/2") Victors are quite rare as well, 90% of the guns has 5 1/2" barrels, Had a Hi Standard one time with a 3 in barrel on it ( special order) loved that.

That's fantastic that your wife has found a new gun to use and clearly enjoys shooting it and is doing well with it. So obviously it's not going anyplace after all.... :d

I've got or had a bunch of rimfire semis. Enjoyed 'em all but the ones that stayed with me are my 422 in dark ano with wood grips just like TC's example above. And shortly after buying the 422 I found a short restricted 2206 in stainless which just HAD to come home with me. It too is a nice accurate and very fun to shoot gun. It rotates through my local Speed Steel competition rimfire users. And of course the mags between the 422 and 2206 are compatible. So I've got a nice bag full.

Then it happened.... About a year and a half ago I was at the local HACS swap show and saw a sign "S&W 41 $650". I thought "yeah, that's sold and the sign just hasn't come down" and walked on..... Next orbit through and it's still there so I ask.... He's got it, looks good and comes with THREE mags. SOLD ! ! ! ! !

So now I have all three. And while all family members all have their own unique feel and fun and as long as we can own handguns in this country and I don't go blind they are going nowhere other than with me to enjoy at the range.

And yeah, I've had a few of the ladies try that 422 and comment on how nice it is for the weight and for them to shoot it. Needs a bigger hand but the weight is what they like.

my 50 yard head shot LOL Free Hand

100 yards "benched " using my shooting glasses with slight magnification. Using Winchester 333 bulk ammo. had 1 about 5inches off near bottom of gun.

I have owned rifles that couldn't shoot this good.

I modified the rear site. I used JB weld to "tighten" the site picture.."made the slot narrower" I found it was way to wide in stock form.
My ruger "target" model cant make these shots.

I would Not hesitate to buy the 6 inch S&W 422 with adjustable sites, that would be interesting.

why does yours look black with a stainless slide?

So true. I have the short barrel version and of the many .22 semi autos that I have owned or handled this is one I will never part with!

Its just such a fun,,,,light....accurate gun to shoot. never gives me issues, and its accurate with any ammo.

I have a lot nicer expensive guns,...but I always take this one out shooting.

looks like it is a bit to the left? would be easy to fix with JB, or if you want fancy, you could cut out a sight blade from sheet stock, with the width you like , two little screws thou slots in it screwed into the back of that sight ., I have too much time on my hands.
