Hey guys,

I will be selling a Smith and Wesson model 52-1 in .38 Special and a Smith and Wesson model 25-3 125th anniversay revolver in .45LC in a few weeks and am just wondering what a fair value would be? Both are in excellent + shape and the 25-3 has the original, blue carboard box. Both have the original S&W medalion grips.

No pics of the 25-3, but here is the 52-1

Thanks.

A few years ago I sold those for 6-700.oo, but I think the price is up on these guns at present.
I would think that the 52 would be 800.oo+
But I would love it at 500.oo
The 52 is a cheap shooter if you have lots of cheap brass, and very
nice guns for bullseye, which a lot of fellows don't shoot anymore.
The 25 I have never had anything to do with, but should be a nice gun.

Gun Digest Book of Guns places value of a 52-1 at $ 675 if excellent in last year's edition; these would be US prices.
The Model 25-3 ranges from $795 in excellent condition
I expect too few of these turn up in Canada for there to be clear Cdn market price so it is worth whatever someone will pay .

At Auction on the weekend (Alberta), a 625 5" in nice shape went for $800 plus 15%. Some people like stainless, others, blue. This was no special anniversary issue, and there was plenty of money thrown around. I'd say $900 is on the high side for one of these, but again, it's what a buyer will pay.

Is this .45 ACP or .45 Colt? The 625 here was a .45 ACP which seem to sell at a bit of a premium. Of course, you need moon clips for those.

Commemorative and anniversary handguns don't seem to fetch a huge premium. Certainly another 15 to 20% would be a normal expectation, for a Smith.

From the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson, 3rd Ed., there were 9948 units made of the standard 125th anniversary product (and 50 Deluxe, and 2 Custom Delulxe, adding up to a production of 10,000). They came with a Mahogany presentation case and a silver medallion. Missing the accessories in just a cardboard box, obviously some loss there. A collector would expect the accessories, and they would be the ones paying you that premium.

Sight unseen, with an "excellent plus" description, I'd start it at $900. If it sells in the first 5 minutes, that would be a low price...

They are a Curio and Relic in the USA, which is meaningful to some who have the C&R license. I'm not sure that this status makes it worthwhile exporting your 25 to America. I doubt it. You would probably net more selling it here. C&R status would certainly help it move South though.

Hope this helps.
