Hello I am interested in opinions on the use of the counter weight on the model 52-2. I am searching for one but they are extremely hard to find and I am wondering if it is worth the trouble looking for one.

Thanks Greg

I use mine depending on what grips are on the gun, does it help? well for that you have to try it with the weight installed and then off, it does seam to take some of the wiggle out but arm fatigue becomes a factor. Depending on your location I could rent you mine.........then you know if you want/need one for the future. Also it's a pretty simple design and if your close to a good understanding machine shop or a home hobbiest I bet you could have one made easy enough

I found that they do tend to help in control. Seems to tame that notorious tendency to bite hard when you don't pay perfect attention. Won't make it a "forgiving" gun but definitely better. Originals are unobtainable, but DJPrecision near Chicago makes them at a reasonable price. Just send the cheque and the order as you will not get a reply to email, too busy with other things!

A friend that I shot with years ago made his own weight but without a machine shop that is a bit more difficult. I don't know if they will ship to Canada but you can check if you are interested, DJ Precision,Arlington Heights, IL makes a copy of the original. At $48 they are about 1/3 of what an original would cost from what I have read on American S&W forums.

Damn, T&G beat me to it.

I had one on the 52-2 I shot at bulls eye for years. It did add to overall weight and fatigue but improved the balance with target grips and reduced muzzle jump.

I am still taking good care of it for you...........and the wheel gun, which I lost to the better half.........
