Does anyone out there have any experience or knowledge about the Smith and Wesson 1000 series of shotguns. There is a local gun shop nearby that is starting to carry these. They seem like they are pretty good quality, and a step up from Stoeger, and Mossberg.

Does anyone out there own one? I was wondering if they are a good value for the Money, or if they are cheap junk.

I was wondering if these shotguns are in the same league as Browning and Winchester?? From what I saw, by holding onto one, I would compare it to a Browning Silver. Definetely seemed to be well built and solid.

I have read a review on them on another website and it was really good, then I went to another Forum, from the States, and they were really Cutting it up. However none of the people cutting it up, actually saw one up close, or even shot it, they were just being opinionated, and partial to there own brand of shotgun.

I don't know much about them, but I do know that the S&W 1020 twenty-gauge is the EXACT same gun as the Mossberg SA-20 I own, and the Weatherbay SA-08, and there's a couple of other brands who market it under their own name as well. They are manufactured in Turkey. I like mine a lot, light to carry (6 lbs.), shoulders nicely, functions perfectly. I have not owned it long enough to give a long term report, I read but I read good things about them on the ShotgunWorld website.

The gun that I held in the store that I went to was the supermag 1012 semi auto. It felt almost identical to a Remington 11-87. The guy working there was really pumping them up, and promoting them, but he said they compare to a Browning silver or rem 11-87. Im not trying to bash Mossberg and Stoeger, because I think there a fine affordable shotguns, but the S&W seemed to be a step up from them, but not in the same league as a Beretta, Benelli, or Browning Maxus.

I watched a episode of Shooting USA, on wild television, and the S&W 1000 series was sponsoring a skeet shooting tournament, for charity. It was a celebrity tournament, with a few celebrity's there and some pro shooters there. Everyone was using the S&W shotgun, and they were all raving about it, however it was sponsored by S&W, so who knows what to make of it.

I am in the market for a new shotgun, but was hoping to keep around the $1000 mark, if possible, which is hard to do if you want something decent. This S&W may be a good option for me. I just did'nt wan'nt to jump into one without knowing anything about it.

There is another very popular shotgun website in tha U.S.A. that I will check out, becasue I'm pretty sure the S&W shotguns have been in the states for a year or 2 already, but are very new to Canada.

I'm not familiar with the 1012, but if it is the twelve gauge version of the 1020 it is identical to the Weatherby SA-08 twelve gauge they have at Goble's for $619.00 (black synthetic), their website shows the "upland" blue/wood model for the same price. You might want to check it out. I might be wrong, but I really believe the S&W/Weatherby/Mossberg is the same gun.

How is the reliability of these shotguns,i read somewhere that these shotgun have different gas system than Remington semi autos.

We've sold quite a few of the 20 guages (1020's) and have had good reports so far . Good value, it seems for a shotgun costing a little over $500.

I've got a smith 1000 that I bought in the 70 tees it's a great gun still use it today for my duck and goose gun it's got a modified choke so I can shoot steel out of it and I've never had a problem with it.They were made in japan at that time and the quality is very good .I don't know about the new ones but if they are the same as the old ones they're a great gun and you'll be happy with it

Heh Small gamer, I did'nt know that S&W, Weatherby, and Mossberg were all the same gun. The Weatherby comes in 3 in only though, were as the S&W comes in supermag also. I did'nt know that Mossberg is the same gun. So is that the 930,and935? Are you sure the S&W is the same as the Mossberg, because the S&W is about $200 more?

The 930 and 935 are American made guns, totally different than the Weatherby/S&W/Mossberg. With Mossberg, if a person wants a 12 ga. auto they must select a 930 or 935, and if they would like a 20 ga. the Turkish made SA-20 is the available gun. I'm not 100% sure that the Mossberg SA-20 and the S&W 1020 is the same gun, but if you look at them in pictures they are nearly identical.
