I have been searching but can't come up with anything. Did Smith and Wesson make a single action .22 revolver?

Also does DA in revolvers mean DA/SA?

I am looking for a nice single action .22 with a swing out cylinder for my girlfriend as she feels safer with single action.

At one time S+W made a single action version of the K17 for target work. They also sold just the lockworks for conversion of an existing 17, which is probably the easiest method of achieving your goal. - dan

S&W made the Model 14 Target Masterpiece in a single action only variant, I am not aware of, and the Standard Catalog of S&W does not list a single action Model 17.
S&W currently makes the Model 17 classic, Model 18 classic, Model 617 & Model 63. All are double action/single action.
S&W has made runs of double action only guns for police departments and you will sometimes find guns that have been modified by a gunsmith to shoot double action only. This is not uncommon with PPC revolvers, but I've never seen it done to a rimfire.

Best bet would be to get her to handle a few guns and decide for herself. The 5 inch model 63 may appeal to her, as it is a J frame and thus suited to smaller hands. The lack of a full length underlug may make it more comfortable to hold outstretched. If she feels comfortable about holding the gun and reaching the controls she may be more willing to shoot a gun with a double action capability, even if she shoots it in single action mode. Otherwise it's Single actions with a loading gate, such as the Ruger Single Six.

As others mention, the SA version is EXTREMELY rare. Up until the late 70's you could buy the single action K parts -a solid hammer without the "fly" and a trigger, and install them yourself. My 1975 K-38 was done this way. Otherwise it can be easily managed by using a small drift punch on the fly's pin (and the pin is very tight) to remove the DA capacity, the trigger remains in the DA state but won't #### the hammer. Only advantage to target shooting was a very slightly faster lock time - more psychological than real. Dr J

The very first S&W, the Model 1, was a single action revolver chambered for .22 Short. Other than that, if you want single action, #### the hammer .
