Smith enterprises scope mount problem

I am trying to install a smith mount (2006 model) and I have found that the stripper clip guide slot is too tight,tried it on both a M1A and a M14S and the dovetail will not slide into the slot with out some major tapping,now by the instructions it should slide freely,anyone else have this problem?Now what is the cure? File the dovetail?Or the slots,seems like both are hardened so it might be a real chore.what would be the best place to remove material? It seems to me it would be the bottom of the dovetail as when tighting the screw I would be pulling the thing up and away from the bottom of the slot anyway. So here I am no files sunday evening and stuck.So who has installed this mount and what would yopu suggest?

Polish all those surfaces with ### fine file or stone. Check for raised edges.
Once the receiver dovetail is polished you can't really do much more to it, as in, no "reshaping or enlarging" , so move on to fit the mount to the receiver.
