Smith & Wesson 22A1 Info Please

I had the opportunity to shoot a friend's S&W 22A one evening; I fired approximately 60 shot with it. This was the first time I shot a semi-automatic pistol, my main interest is in olympic style air gun shooting.
Shooting the S&W 22A was very enjoyable. I found it easy to point and quick to get back onto the target for the next shot. With any pistol it is important how it fits your hand and I was surprised how well it fit mine. My hands are large yet skinny, still, my trigger finger found the trigger quite naturally. The trigger was a bit creepy but I should say that I am used to one of the best and crispest triggers of any target gun (Steyr LP 10). My first impression of the S&W was that it is an accurate and reliable shooter.
So, now I am going for a restricted PAL and I am considering a .22 pistol for bullseye shooting. The S&W 22A is one model I am considering for purchase.

I recommend that you try one before buying one.
When compared to other contemporary options, the trigger is horrible, the edges are sharp, the magazine release is queer, it has a magazine disconnector, the grip is distinctly lemonish, and aftermarket parts are non-existent. It isn't that much less expensive, it's just a lot cheaper.
I'd much rather a Ruger MK II 22/45, a Browning Buck Mark, a Hammerli x-esse, a Beretta 87T, a Kimber Rimfire Target, a used High Standard...

Before buying your SW22A, be sure the dealer checks the gun over regarding the current recall for these pistols.
I bought mine last summer, within a few days found it was part of the recall, and now 5 months later I'm still wondering when it's gonna come back from Smith & Wesson in the U.S. The latest I've heard, might be coming back in January.
Can't say much else since I was never able to fire it before sending it back under recall. Meantime the Sig P226 Classic .22 is looking mighty tempting - nice .22 that can be upgraded to 9mm, .40S&W or .357SIG. May be plinking with that one before getting the SW22A back...

As a die hard S&W fanboy even I'd advise that you look to other options before picking up a 22A for all the reasons Wendell stated. Go ahead and try one out, and if you like it go ahead and buy one, but there are many better choices as the gun costs around the same as a Buck Mark or even a Ruger, both of which are better quality overall.

I love S&W pistols, but for a 22 cal automatic I'll recommend always a Ruger MKIII
