Smith & Wesson 422

Hey Guys,

Looking for info on the S&W 422 as I'm researching some of the older, cheaper .22's such as the 422 or a H&R 949. Problem is I'm having a hard time finding info on replacement parts for the 422 since the gun is discontinued etc... Main concern for parts would be firing pin and extractor. Mags can be used from the 41 but I'm also curious about sears and hammers and whether trigger jobs can be done of the 422's ?

Everything I've came across so far suggests they are awesome guns for the money but any additional info towards parts and such would be greatly appreciated!

Quit your #####ing and just buy one! I have a 422 with 4 mags put over 5000 rounds through it over the last 8 months cleaned it every 500 or so, not a single issue.

Some good info on youtube, as for spare parts, it doesn't need any

I bought a 622 when they first came out, geez that was along time ago. It was a ok shooter, fun, light, great to introduce others to shooting with.

But it had one problem, at least mine did, it would keep breaking one spring which I think was the extractor. Its been so long I cant remember what the spring did but I sold it after replacing the third one in less than a year.

I cant find a schematic so I cant confirm what part it was that kept breaking but IMHO if parts are not available you may want to stay away from it.

I have had a 622 since they came out. It has had well over 10000 rounds and works fine and shoots well. Never had any issues with it.

I have a 422 I bought over 15 years ago and just picked up a 3rd mag off CGN this year.

Well over 10000 rds of all brands of ammo including CBee Shorts.... 1 rd every 1 - 2 minutes with manual loading... what am I thinking

Functions flawless... I can shoot 400 rds + in one day before I start to get the occasional FTE.

IIRC my 422 is abit finnicky with Rem Subsonic and experience FTE and/or FTF 1 - 2 rds per mag. Maybe it could be the lot I bought of the subsonics. I bought 10 bricks way back and still have 5 left. Great in my 10/22 though

Have to be honest... my 422 shoots more accurately than my P226 Classic 22.

Forget the trigger job mods and stuff and just shoot it as is.
