I am not sure if this is the spot to ask but does anyone know of any new or used S&W 500's available.

I saw the 5" version at TSE last year I believe, just incredibly massive, the most intimidating part of the gun is probably the cylinder. That's alot of powder in a case that's being shot in your hands, especially for a revolver and I'm sure it's nice and heavy on recoil.

In the end I wanted to get the 460V, as it handles .460 rowland (spelling?) which is a huge cartridge in itself, 45LC and .454. Having a gun that can shoot 3 awesome calibers is a worthy investment IMO

The .460 Rowland is a totally different cartridge than the .460 S&W Magnum that the revolver is actually chambered in. Please do some research. The overall length and the case head of the 2 very distinct cartridges are very very different.

The .460 Rowland is not a huge cartridge since it can be used by a 1911 platform.

S&W 500 has half the recoil of a .44 magnum. Even though the .44 has about 900 ft/lbs and the 500 has close to 2600ft/lbs.

They have somesort of energy disperser built into the 500 barrel

You actually shot one? Doesn't really sound like it.

The one that I have put a couple rounds through was not half the recoil of a .44 mag. It wasn't as bad as I might have expected but it was certainly above .44 levels and I shoot at least a couple hundred rounds of .44 a month.

The X-frame 500 S&W has comp on the barrel, not a "energy disperser". Esser,as far as recoil being less that a 44 mag you obviously haven't shot one for I could give you a hand load to shoot that would dislodge one of your testicles, but it could be down loaded to feel like a 38 special as well.
The 460 Rowland is a slightly longer version of the 45 ACP, designed to give 44 mag velocities in a 1911 platform, been there, done that. Rowlands platform of choice is a Kimber. The 460 Rowland case being rimless would slide in the cylinder of the 460 S&W and probably almost allow 2 to fit, let me know how that goes:p

It doesn't say on the website but it lets you add it to the cart and everything so it's hard to say. They had one in the case at the Kamloops location when I was there a few weeks ago, they are massive in person.

I phoned them a couple weeks ago and they said they "maybe had one" whatever that means.

I got mine from "Italian Sporting Good's" talk to Joe. Mine is 8 & 3/4" with a inter changable muzzle brake. GET THE MUZZLE BRAKE MODEL OR YOU CAN CAUSE INJURY! To many people Oww & Aww over me when I am at the range with it cuz it sounds nothing like anything else. The model 460 is louder when using the standard 350 grain but when you move it up to the 500 grain hollow point, I don't care were you are on the range you hear the BOOM. Now don't let these people that don't own the 500 MAGNUM tell you lies. This HAND CANNON is a meat tenderiser. Meaning if you fire all 5 rounds the next day good luck in tring to use your hand. If you are really interested in this and live in the lowermainland PM me and I will bring it out to the range for you to try. All I wish is that some day our frigen laws will change and I can bring this into the bush for hunting & safety reasons. With this all being said my hands down favorite gun of all time and also my very own first firearm ever purchased was the DESERT EAGLE .50 AE. It shots flame's has a loud BOOM factor and also has absoultly no recoil! I am not lieing to you when I say it has the same felt recoil of a 357 MAGNUM and you will enjoy shooting it alot. But where ever you choose to buy it we need to see pic's!

Some of you guys are pussies. I have shot a 100 rnd day, yes my hand hurt the next day, even the next two days, so what, no worse that punching out a car door window because you locked you keys in a running car, but that another story:p

Ya you defenatly call that one right! When you are a paintiner by trade you kind of need your hands for it. Also when you are a pussy painter like me :p and have your choice between shooting your 500 and your desert eagle it would be kind of hard to work the next week after having a blast the 500 at the range on the weekend compared to the desert eagle when you could shoot 40 rounds and still cut a straight line the verry next day with out probalms.

Shot one of these yesterday and it is great fun.... only shot off 5 rounds and it was awesome. Got to love the USA shoot whatever you want.
