A friend of mine noticed that on his S&W 626. He used his usual cleaning stuff for his pistol, with some elbow grease he was able to get the 'surface rust' out.

Have you wiped it down with fine steel wool yet?

Fingers will sweat, which is salty. You should wipe down the trigger with an oily rag on those guns before storing them.

tonight i took out my 629 to clean and noticed the trigger started to rust.

I would say it is already in a deep rusted state ;)

Caused by sweaty and salty finger :) and not cleaned/oiled after touching.

I would first go over the whole thing with some WD40, then only way to remove rust I know is mechanical removal. I have one of these Canadiantire small polishing kits, I would try with it.

Once clean and dry, I would keep it oiled.

This is one more proof that under lubrication and not cleaning after use is not prefferable :)

By the way, judging by all the soot on the gun, I suspect you may wish to bone up on firearms cleaning in general. Stainless does not mean you can skip cleaning and oiling your firearm.

i clean and oil all my guns after every range trip... except this time i got a little lazy and waited a few days (around 5 days if i remember correctly). i bought some flitz polish and will be working on it this weekend.

lesson learned.

I had that problem with my P226 last month when a buddy of mine shot my pistol..... I guess his sweat was a bit salty :)

Rub the rust off with CLP or gun oil.....and make sure to clean the exterior of the revolver with CLP before putting it back in the safe after shooting.
