I just acquired a S&W 686-6 Plus 5 inch unfluted revolver from a fellow CGNer. This is my first revolver, I just LOVE it so much. It seems it's some what rare and only handful of posts and information could be found online. Do you have the same revolver, and know the history of it? I'm trying to find out the year mine was produced and how many were made, can't really find any of those information.

Hardly rare, but a nice revolver to get into the game with! enjoy!

If you send the serial # to smith and wesson they can tell you the year of make. I can tell you it was made after or in 2001.

That's good to know. I'll certainly contact Smith and Wesson. Thank you!

very nice. I love my 586, though I do wish it were a bit lighter in the barrel. I bet the 5" balances nicely.

I'm going to treat myself to a model 66 someday for a short n light .357

Just picked up a Model 66 from Shooters' Choice. :d

Awesome. Do you have another .357 to compare it to? I'd be interested to hear your thoughts.

Closest I've come to one was shooting a fellows 4" model 19 at the range. It was a lovely gun, and so nicely balanced. I like my 4.25 GP100, but it's no Smith.

No, I don't. I have a S&W Model 14-2 (in .38 Spl only), and I've shot a friend's GP100 and Taurus Model 66 on occasion, but this will be the first .357 of my own. Ought to be a treat. :)

Nice revolver.

Personally, I've been recently looking at the new Model 686 with the 4.2" brl with the fluted cylinder.

NAA.

In my scholarly opinion that is probably the BEST wheelgun on the market today. They are deadly accurate, reasonably priced, and they sure look good too. When I look at these guns I start to do a slow burn thinking about how handgun hunting should be legal in Alberta! I would love to go after hogs with one. The only gun better would be an old Smith in .41 Magnum...but they are getting awfully rare these days.

About the only gripe I have with your set up is that this beast needs a grand holster and about 4~6 speedloaders. :)

Heck, I'd love a .32 magnum. Too bad they're too darned deadly for us to have....

I shot a new to me model 19 today that recently arrived from a most excellent CGN'er.

I dare say its nicer in the hand and to shoot than my 586. Got to love the K-frame. I'll certainly be looking for a 66 this year, just to have a gun that I'm not afraid to run hard and put away filthy. The 19 is going to be babied with .38 special and ballistol lol

I had one a few years ago and loved the look of the unflutted cylinder…too bad it scratched easily and I'm not rough on my HG's.
OP, enjoy your new wheel gun….
