Does anyone know the logic or rationale behind the restricted status of the Smith&Wesson and Colt or any .22 long gun in general (other than barrel length)?

Insightful - They must of had some technical justification that correlates to engineering, design, etc....

Nope.If it looks like an AR, it's automatically restricted because of it's appearance. It's the gov't, it doesn't have to make sense.

The Ruger SR22 - looks like an AR and is non-restricted -- the Rem 597VTR - looks like an AR and is non-restricted. If you accessorize them, they get real scary looking!

If firearms are being restricted based on, "looking scary". Than all firearms are in jeoprady and therefore Restricted because all look scary.......

I seem to think the restricted status of some .22's must be based technically on the action?
