Smith & Wesson M&P 22 or a Ruger SR-22?

Which would you choose? I want to buy a semi auto 22lr pistol that has a similar big brother if I decide to get a match in 45 acp, and both offer that. Which would be a better choice do you think?

If it matters, I have LOTS of 36 grain golden bullets by the bucket... I have had others say that the Ruger SR-22 will get along with them, but I don't know anyone with the S&W M&P-22

My M&P 22 is just shy of 3000 rounds with no cycling issues. I shoot Blazer 40g, CCI MiniMag Hollow Point 36g, and CCI MiniMag 40g. The only ammo that gave me a few, like 5, hiccups feeding was Federal Auto Match due to its bullet shape, blunter nose.

Otherwise it is a really sweet shooter and size for size is an exact copy of my M&P 9 so as a training gun the 22 is perfect. It fits the same holster too. The only major differences would be recoil and slide spring tension. It is very accurate and has a rear adjustable sight. Field stripping is a breeze and takes literally less than 10 seconds to get the slide off and complete access to the barrel and hammer. Love mine and will never sell it.

I have the M&P 22. It was fussy about ammo at first, but after a few hundred or so rounds it's much better. It has been an accurate reliable little gun for me.

I have three M&P's and really like them so I would recommend the M&P of course. If you can, I would recommend shooting both guns, or at least hold them, to see which fits you better.

I have the M&P as well. I like it and so far it has ate all I have fed it minus some subsonic loads(which makes sense). I am a fan of the M&P line and have one in 45 so it made sense to stick with the M&P. I grabbed mine off the EE for cheap and wouldn't hesitate to get another one.

A .45 1911 with a .22 conversion kit is another option for you. I have a Ruger SR1911 and the GSG conversion kit. Or you can purchase a complete .22 1911 for not much more money. I used to have the Sig 1911-22 and was very happy with it. My wife has the Browning 1911-22 which is a little smaller than standard 1911 dimensions.

Is there a 2.0 in 22 like there is in 9mm and 45 acp?

Not yet. There may be a 2.0 model in the works at Carl Walther, they make the M&P 22 for S&W. But I certainly wouldn’t let that stop you buying the current model stuff since there are still “1.0” models of other calibres still available.

The M&P 22 has been one of those gun purchases that turned out far better than I expected. I love the ergonomics of the M&P pistols and they work for me. I replaced the sights on the M&P 22 as they were not up to par. Other than that, the accuracy and ability to eat everything I feed it makes it a very fun 22 semi. Shot the Ruger semi once and it was fine but did not fit my hand as well as the M&P.
