I just picked up my M&P 9mm new in box yesterday and noticed 1 magazine has a light grey/off white follower and the other magazine's follower is black.

I have not shot the gun yet (I know, I know, why didn't I go straight to the range  ?).

Physically, the 2 followers look VERY similar, not exactly the same but very, very similar.

Any reason for the 2 types? Is one or the other problematic?

I recall having to get new followers for my Walther P99 a long time ago due to problematic functioning.

I just got my M&P 9 2 weeks ago. I too had one mag with a gray follower and one mag with a black follower. I did a search on mp-pistol and it looks like 2 different rev's of follower. The Gray one is a newer design that puts more pressure on the slide stop.

Well I've had mine for quite a while, but I bought them at The Shooting Edge in Calgary. But if everyone in Canada is out of stock, you might want to consider ordering them from Brownells.
