Smith&Wesson M&P 9mm

I bought the 40 first and just picked up my 9mm last week. Took it to the range, ran 500 rounds through it and loved it. It shoots point of aim right out of the box, no break in bobbles, I'm gonna get the 45 next. That good enough?

Excellent gun for IDPA SSP & ESP Divisions either in 9MM or .40cal. In .45acp works great in CDP Division. My 9MM has around 5K through it without a hitch of any kind. I installed the Apex sear and gun now has a very crisp 4.5lb trigger with a fast reset.

People are comparing them to the Glocks... Only without that funky grip angle. (in my opinion)

I've been researching them alot lately. I've never seen anyone complain about them at all, infact they receive quite alot of praise. I almost bought one a couple of weeks ago, but thats a different story... I still plan on buying one asap.

Unless the M&P slide is marked CAUTION: CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED, it was shipped from the factory on a pistol with a magazine disconnector, and I would not buy it.

I suggest that you instead buy the Julie G. version of the M&P, the M&P9JG. The M&P9JG comes from the factory just like she uses it, with a match-ready sear, match-ready sights, IPSC and IDPA legal for all divisions, with both black and pink grips, and without a magazine disconnector.

I will start by giving you my background.I have shot the following pistols in 9mm: SigSauer P226,Glock 17 RTF,CZ Shadow,Browning HighPower,and S&W M&P.

Good:
-Adjustable grip (if you have small hands like me)
-Grip angle (that a personal preference)
-Trigger is not bad (not as good as the P226 & Shadow but again this is a personal preference)
-Easy to clean (not too many parts)

Bad:
-Price
-Magazine spring is really stiff (I would recommend a loader if you plan to shoot alot)
-The magazine ejector button can be a little bit bigger (that's my opinion)

I wasn't aware that the JG version came with a match sear. I wonder how it compares to the 'almighty apex sear'.

The use of the phrase "match-ready sear" was my own, based upon the public statement by Julie Golub that she uses the M&PJG, just as it is, out-of-the-box. Julie G uses it just as it is, out-of-the-box, for matches, so - keeping in mind also the fact that some matches both specify a minimum trigger weight and proscribe any aftermarket sear - I consider the term "match-ready sear" to be accurate.

FWIW, my M&P9 (with it's out-of-the-box OEM sear) could not have a lighter trigger and still be legal for IPSC Production. It's right on the edge, just as it is.

i beleive the M&P JG version and The Pro series come with a sear that allows somewhat lighter pull and shorter reset than the "service" sear in the regular model. The apex sear is IMHO superior to both

I have one, I like it a lot. The only thing I have to say is that they have a long trigger pull. This can be worked out but a Gunsmith im sure or I just got use to it. They shoot well though and I have yet to have any issues with about 1000 rounds down the pipe.

I spoke with an M&P owner the other day that had done some sort of little spring flip to his gun to eliminate the magazine disconnector feature. Apparently it's easy and takes less than 5 minutes.

The bit about aftermarket parts being prohibited from Production and some IDPA classes is valid though. That alone would be reason enough to go for the JG version.

Easy to do but not legal for IDPA unfortunately the mag disconnect may not be disabled. If the slide does not have the warning on it and the mag disconnect is disabled the gun would get you DQ'd. Not that big of deal to leave it in. It has no effect on trigger pull.
