Hi there, who's installed this kit? Is it worth the $?

The APEX Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK) was designed to provide the M&P (9 mm, .357 Sig & .40 only) pistol owner a smooth, consistent 5 - 5.5 lb trigger pull with the advantages of shorter over-travel and reduced reset. The kit includes:
APEX Fully Machined Sear (Hard Sear) (9 mm, .357 Sig, .40S&W, 45 ACP series)
APEX M&P Ultimate Striker Block Kit (USB kit)
APEX M&P Increased Rate Sear Spring** & Trigger Return Spring (aluminum slave pin included)
**Two sear springs of different sizes are included with kit. Use the one that fits your M&P.
***This kit will reduce most of the over travel in the M&P trigger system but will not reduce pre-travel/up-take.

I installed the forward set sear and trigger kit on my dad's M&P 9.

The difference is night and day between this one and the factory trigger. Well worth the money and easy to install.

It turns it into a much shorter and crisper trigger pull. It also adds a noticeable reset compared to the factory.

I installed the kit in my M&P 9mm and the RAM. The kit smooths out the trigger and lightens the pull slightly. I would highly recommend the RAM as well to get a tactile reset. Is it worth the money, I think so I can shoot my M&P faster and more accurately then with stock parts.

You installed this same kit with the ram or the forward set sear & trigger kit?

Pretty much some sort of APEX kit is basically required equipment for an M&P if you are going to be running it fast. I have the competition kit, along with the Aluminium trigger in both my M&P 9 and M&P CORE. It is a very light trigger. I considered putting in the RAM on my CORE, but there are compatibility issues with the new sear housing.

As for the dead trigger, I have not experienced that with my comp kit. I would google it and see if anyone else had that problem. If not, send or call APEX. They will for sure be able to walk you through a troubleshooting exercise. APEX also has a very good series of videos detailing exactly how to install all their parts, as well as some fixes for know issues.

I used the sear and polished up and tweaked the rest, the M&P is quite simple to work on and everything works in a very predictable manner. Once you look at how it works, the areas to improve are pretty obvious. To improve reset, try tweaking (very gently) the trigger bar inward (toward the center line). This can also get rid of dead trigger, has the advantage of not adding parts. Polishing the standard FBP and the part of the trigger bar that lifts it gets rid of the crappy grinding feeling in the take up, and the Apex sear gives you a nice crisp break. All without adding parts, or sacrificing reliability in any way.

I installed the forward sear set in mine with the aluminum trigger and I use it for idpa and ipsc. The difference is so massive from the factory trigger that it becomes a completely new firearm. This kit was a bit pricey at 280 after tax but puts the m&p in line with the top end handguns.

I've got some with them now, mainly as my PD changed the rules for Duty Pistols - and my home gunsmith version of the Burwell trigger job was not acceptable anymore.

Is it required for most people --> no

Does it make a nice drop in trigger --> yes
