Hey BJ hill
I just got an M&P 9 and have had it out to the range a couple of times. So far I think it's an awesome pistol. I'm not so accurate with it, but I had a friend of mine out with me and he was getting ten out of ten on target, so I know it's me not the pistol. Remember though, it's a police pistol, not a target gun.
The trigger has had some complaints, but it's a fairly light pull and you will get used to the built in trigger stop pretty quickly. I've handled glocks and it's no better or worse, just different!
It doesn't field strip as quickly as a glock, but we're not aiming for speed here anyway. The gun was designed so that you HAVE to open it up and look in the chamber as you deactivate the sear. Just an added measure of safety. After that, the disassembly is as simple as a glock would be
As far as reliability goes, I've had about 300 rounds through it now. They all loaded, went bang, and extracted into fairly neat piles. Most of the brass would wind up on the shooting bench and I wouldn't even have to pick it up!
If you hurry up, Smith and Wesson has a promotion on where they will send you two free mags if you buy the pistol between October 1st, 2007 and sometime in December (?) Online it says the deal is only available in the states, but I've seen a thread on here mentioning that they have extended the deal to Canadians. You can't beat the price. Williams Arms in Port Perry, ON has them for $625 in either 9mm or .40, which is less than S&W suggests on their website!
If you want a pistol that is fun to shoot, looks cool and will make other shooters envious, GO FOR IT!
