Smith & Wesson M&P or Gen 4 Glock 21

I wouldn't describe myself as a high level shooter (I don't think anyone who's seen me shoot would either) but the best advice I've had regarding gear has come from people who I would describe as high level shooters - regardless of their specialty (bulls eye, PPC, IPSC etc.).

Ok so I'm trying to decide what one of these two pistols I should get for my first restricted. What I would like from the community is for people that own or have shot both pistols, what the better choice for a first would be. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

To get back to OP and his question.

I suggest you do not buy either of those two pistols that you listed.

Starting off with 45ACP might cause you to develop a flinch and other assorted problems with your shooting, that would greatly delay your improvement as a shooter.

If this is your first restricted firearm, I would strongly suggest that you start of with 9mm Glock 17 or Smith & Wesson M&P 9... and that is if you must have centerfire as your first pistol.

Depending on your level of experience with handguns, rimfire might be a good starting point.

Pistols you listed in your original inquiry are not well suited for beginner, and you might want to give it another thought.

Cheers,
Dan

My first choice is the M&P40 as I use this for work, but the Glock is also a good choice. I've owned and used both. The Glock is best if you get a Gen 4. You might as well flip a quarter. Both are pretty awsome.

Maybe so, which is why i wont take their advice, they use what they have found works for them and gives them the best performance for how much they shoot.

For the weekend shooter thats not advice that should be followed as most modern pistols will outshoot the average shooter, so why limit options due to what vickers or any of those other guys say. Find what fits your hand the best weather it be cz, glock, sig, mp,beretta etc.. All good guns. Buy one have fun shooting it and dont worry about what vickers says as most on here will probably never reach that level.

Hmm. Well, suit yourself.

If anyone has heard of Chris Costa, he says to try out what fits your body dynamics best. I've been on his carbine 2 course(before the ITAR people ruined it for Canadians) and im totally hip to what he says about how all of us are different and build on your skills and your choices of equipment by what works best for you.

One example is the P99. I really want one, but I just don't get the accuracy I get with my M&P. Almost the same gun, right? Anyways, I pass it off to my buddy and he can hit "X's" all day. Meh, maybe one day. Lol!
