I was quite exited about this gun, but might have to pass on it after reading the review...

Final thoughts:

The gun is going back to S&W this week. It won't be authorized for duty use because of concerns about longevity. I'm unimpressed with the peening and walking pin after only about 4,000 rounds.

Too bad, because I really liked the interchangeable grip panels, and the sights and trigger were good.

Of course with you being an obvious Beretta lover you forgot to include the quote that goes with the picture of the jammed pistol you posted so here it is :

Another firearms instructor managed to make the thing choke twice by limp-wristing it with his weak hand to the extent the gun was nearly dropped each time.

I am not trying to say that this is a great pistol because from this test there are indications that there probably are problems with it, but pictures without the reason and quotes are as bad as quotes out of context.

the pictures are to get people's attention, if someone wants to read about they can that's what the link if for ...and what the hell does this has to do with Berettas...?

like I said I was quite exited abut this gun and was thinking of getting one when it becomes available, but I might have to wait for the problems to get fixed first.

I would say that the M&P tested by the cop in the review was one of many models that were sent out to various PD's for longevity tests last year. These were pre-production and early production guns, don't forget, and S&W TOLD them to do their best to break the guns. My contact at the Columbus PD also had some issues with their evaluation guns, and all problems reported (including a broken right slide stop lever) have been addressed and fixed. I would not condemn the M&P yet.
Even my G17 will stove-pipe if I limp-wrist it, btw.... ;)

I, too, am looking forward to more reviews of production model M&Ps as they have many compelling features. The one thing that does disappoint me a bit was the sear reset; I had read in an earlier article about how the reset on the test gun was comparable to that of a glock but from the sounds of it, it is quite a bit more.

the review was posted on the Dec. 21 '05 and the last update was Jan. 9 '06, so I doubt they had time to change anything yet...but I too like that gun and hope they'll fix it up soon :)

And please feel free to show me a 1911 that works with a limp wrist....! :)

S&W does tend to make overly complex pistols, but I haven't had a single problem with my 5946, about 7500 rounds later.

I'll wait for a few more reviews!

Neal

I would be hesitant to buy a first year model of a new car or truck. Maybe guns could be the same.
