Made in 1976. Just cleaned her, so the white lint is from the cloth, my camera shows up everything. The screws for the side plate are rusted on lol. I hear a rattle inside but cant get the screws out to check, its seems to operate fine.

Gorgeous pair(s) you have there...

How do you like the 629 4.25" ???

I've been debating for the last few months on what length of 629 or 29 to get... also debating if I want a full underlug as is seen on the 629 Classic in various lengths... choices, choices.

Ive owned the 5 inch 629 with full underlug, its a great gun. They all are, you cant go wrong with any of them. Of course you feel the recoil a little more with the 4.25 629. Im going out tomorrow to shoot this model 29-2.

What a brute of a revolver. I'm jealous. It's in fantastic condition. Love those machined chambers on the older Smiths. Love my no dash 586, but I would love to get an old 29.

Range day. I am certainly pulling the gun to the left, have to work on that. I was shooting American Eagle 240g JHP. Distance was 33 feet. That orange target is 7 inchs across.

Ive got an identical 29-2 as yours(although without the presentation box),mine was made in 72.I actually prefer the longer barrel to the 6 inch. They are fantastic revolvers, the older "pinned and recessed"smiths are a real treat and you simply wont find a finish like that on todays guns

Its a good idea to get into reloading if you have a 44.I load 5 grains of titegroup with a 240 grain lead bullet, does 750fps and is really accurate. Its probably best to limit full power loads in the older smiths as you can loosen them up over time with such loads

"...the white lint..." Whatever cloth you're using quit it. That lint can and will congeal with the lube oils and make a horrible mess.

Its a towel, a cotton towel and no it wont, been using the same type of cloth for years. My camera will show up a grain of dust. Thats the only reason your even seeing it.

I had a S&W model 29 plain jane Highway Patrolman .357. I loved it. Let it go far too cheap a few years ago. My son had bought a Colt .357 Python, same length barrel, nickel, seemed a bit heavier than the S&W but I preferred to shoot the S&W over the Colt. Your pair of beauties make me ask myself why I never bought a S&W 29 in .44Mag 25 years ago. Too late know as at my age, all of my hand guns are gone.:(

Try 44 special shell's in the model 29. Easier to shoot. Same principal that the highway Patrol used to do back in the day, three 38 special and three 357 mag. lead light, finish heavy! The old
model 27 and 28 357 mag's are still the best. Better than the 66

I dont reload and 44 special is hard to come by.

That's a 45 ACP load. What's the point of shooting 44 mag. Lol.

The point is that shooting full power loads in the older model 29s will beat then up in short order(they will go out of time in a few hundred rounds). That is the reason that the newer generations of 29s have redesigned lockup and strengthening,so that they handle heavier loads better. Also,I dont think that there are many people out there who can actually manage to shoot 2-300 rounds of full loads in an afternoon and still enjoy doing it.
